Dog armor!
I must be missing something entirely here, but why can't I modify my dogs armor. It clearly says that it does not have any mods. Which implies that I could modify it. Or can't I?

Nope you can't. It is just another "clothe" to change the look of the dog.
AFAIK it doesn't protect him, it's just for fun.

You can't modify most clothing items. There's no internal consistency as to what can and cannot be modified.

anyone checked if it can take ballistic weave once you've unlocked that option?

It can't. The dog things are purely cosmetic.

This - It's not armour, just cosmetics.

Worth note, the Armorsmith Extended[www.nexusmods.com] mod allow you to add Ballistic Weave to pieces of dog armor, including the collar, you can have Dogmeat rocking over 300 DR/ER.
