I thought it was justified to act strange after 400 years of torture.
Options are:
Kill Lorenzo - You get Lorenzo's gun by his son 7 days after you kill Lorenzo and you can find Jack Cabot wandering the wasteland selling high tech crafting materials.
Save Lorenzo - You get a +5STR, +50DMGresist and -10rad/sec for 60 minutes drug and a weak version of Lorenzo's gun that's worse than a regular Gamma gun. Now, to my knowledge, the drug can not be sold, stored or traded, and you can only get a new one after you use the one you have. However, you can also use, get new, use, get new etc and the duration stacks so you can have the buff permanently as long as you spam use it enough.
As far as the backstory goes: Lorenzo found and artifact and it turned him into a bloodthirsty monster. Think something like Hannibal, cool and polite but harsh exterior and a monster underneath. He was not tortured, just imprisioned, and that was only because his son's reputation helped him avoid a death sentence for his crimes. Jack's also been working on a cure for him for 400 years.
Jack Cabot is the absolute good guy, Lorenzo is the absolute bad guy(even if it isn't his fault), and Cabot family is kinda meh, couldn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about them due to their personalities.
The reason I'm torn is that I'll never use the gun most likely, and the permanent immunity to radiation + 50DMGresist and 5STR are definitely more useful. However, at the same time I do not want to free Lorenzo because he'll likely keep on being a monster in Wasteland, and my character is a good guy.
Also, 400 years in a tiny room is torture.
Also, through the story you realize that Lorenzo was locked in the asylum around 1 year after he found the artifact. And the serum that made Cabots immortal was only discovered some time after that, so there was no reason to lock Lorenzo in there unless what Jack said is true. Lorenzo even offers to show Jack how to make and get more serum faster if he releases him and Jack refuses to do so. There's basically no reason for Jack to keep Lorenzo locked up unless he really is the monster Jack describes him as. And, as I said, if you let Lorenzo free and talk to him, if you're any good at judging character you'll immediately see Jack was most likely telling the truth. He even wanted to kill the entire family even though Jack was the one keeping him locked in and the others didn't see to have much to do with it.
Lorenzo is a victim of his own curiosity and Jack is the one that is the real bad guy.
I sided with Lorenzo because he didnt know what the artifact would do to him and didnt know he wouldnt be able to remove it once he wore it.
His son has used his families pre-war status to keep his father imprisoned for 400yrs and feed off him like a vampire so that he doesnt age and lives for as long as he harvests his own father for this serum.
After you free Lorenzo, he doesn't start torturing his family, he explains their wrong doings to them and essentially insta-kills them.
Afterwards, he thanks you a bunch, calls you his friend, and upkeeps his promise of helping you.
He doesn't get on a rampage afterwards, he just starts chilling on his couch.
If you follow the story you find out that the serum was developed after Lorenzo was imprisoned. Until that moment, there is no reason for Jack to lock him up for any selfish reasons, yet he does.
And even if Lorenzo actions were ONLY due to the artifact, that wouldn't mean much. Had he killed or tortured people under the influence, it'd be the same thing. And, in the story, it's again said how Lorenzo and his team found the artifact yet at first left it where it was. Then, during the night, Lorenzo stole it and ran back to Boston. This is same as some random guy taking a new drug just to see how it is, ends up killing someone else under the influence, then says he's not guilty because he didn't know the drug would make him kill someone. Such defense just doesn't work.
And as you can see, Lorenzo has no problem sharing his immortality. So why would Jack lock him up in order to take what Lorenzo would give him of his own will? There's got to be a reason for a crime, and if Lorenzo isn't the monster Jack describes him to be, there's simply no reason for Jack to lock Lorenzo up.
and the whole "now there's nothing to stand in my way" screams Netflix and chill
He put it on and told the crew the bury the site,,,they objected and Lorenzo leaves the now partially buried site, alone.
He's writing indicates he murdered both his friend and the excavation crew.
We both know what the right answer is.
