Underground Undercover
It is possible that Desdemona will not initiate dialogue when trying to warn her about the brotherhood. [verified]
- This may be caused by Glory being dead. To fix go to Railroad HQ and use recycleactor 000508EE and 000508EE.moveto player in the console. [verification needed] There haven't been any reports of success with this fix though.
- Try to load any save that you didn't kill any Brotherhood of Steel in their base (The Prydwen, Boston Airport and Cambridge Police Station)
Anyone fixed it in game? because the above methods do not work for me

Hi - I am having the same problem. This is my fourth and final play through I need to complete the game. After I finished the Institute quest Powering Up (or whatever up) and activated the nuclear reactor, X1 did come to talk to me. Desdemonda then would NOT talk to me. Glory didn't die in our join mission. I tried reloading some saves and spent another hour going through the last portion of the quest again but that didn't work either. I don't want to use commands and screw up the game.

No, you're not. That's a different issue.

That's not a bug. She is pissed with you because you just crowned the Institute slavelords as the rulers of the Commonwealth. It's a wonder she doesn't kill you on sight.

Did Shawn promise you a G3 waifu if you did his dirty work and crushed all resistance to the Underground Evil Empire?

'Patriot' is probably already dead, or screaming in Dr Ayo's interrogation chamber, begging for death. While your son Shawn watches, devoid of any emotion.

Ex-Ept European... Actually, in order for you to continue the Underground Undercover quest, you have to complete Powering Up. From the manual - pg 159 for you reference "After you have successfully completed the Institute Quest: Powering Up, you receive a covert message from ZI-14." Of course, he then tells you the Brotherhood found out about the Railroads base (you can choose to believe him or not) and you have to warn Desdemona.

What I believe YOU are referring to is the quest End of the Line where Father (Shawn) requests you to kill Desdemona and the rest of the Railroad. This takes place right after the board meeting. So long as you don't speak with him before speaking with ZI, you should not have a problem.

It IS in fact a bug that is not preventing Desdemona and the rest of the Railroad to be gearing up for battle when you arrive to warn them about the Brotherhood.

The entire point of infiltrating the Institute was the gain the confidence of your son Shawn so you could do a covert mission to free the synths and take down the Institute from the inside.

If you're not going to be helpful (and frankly rather rude) then don't respond.
Well then, good luck taking the little bastard down.

Or to enable them to dominate the Commonwealth, but I'm glad you chose the right path.
And yes I know which quests are involved here.

TBH if your plan was a Railroad victory I would have expected you to start Underground Uncover and declare your loyalty to the RR, long before empowering (literally) the Institute to rule the Commmonwealth, destroying all resistance. Maybe the game developers expected the same.

Are you using the unofficial patch? It fixes most of these bugs.
So apart from the legit scenarios where Des will not talk to you because you've burned your bridges with the RR already (and posts #1 and #2 may be one of those scenarios), the generic reason NPCs won't talk to you is because there is some other conversation with you, from some other quest, "in their queue" that they are waiting to have with you, but you haven't yet met the conditions for that other conversation from that other quest.

Looking at it from the point of view of Des and the RR, even if you were already in the RR, you have not only joined the Institute without telling them, you have given the Institute their super weapon - their equivalent of Liberty Prime, that unlocks all the previous limitations on their power (in every sense). You put the Institute in the position to wipe out the RR and the BoS, and make the MM irrelevant, you personally broadcast to the citizens of the Commonwealth ordering them to kneel and kiss the white laminated boots of the Institute, and you're surprised when Dez doesn't want to be friends any more?

"Don't worry Des, it's all a trick: I just enabled them to be the unrivalled unstoppable power in the Commonwealth to *trick them*. The fools!" LOL.

Yes the firefight ending (to the RR) at RR HW is the only really believable one, if you have not previously started Underground Undercover before becoming the Institute's Kellogg 2.0.

Matt - I don't have any mods or anything attached to the game if that's what you mean. I know the Skyrim Unofficial patch was a mod. I'm trying to unlock all of the achievements which you can't do with mods :(

You realize that achievements are pointless, right? I will never understand Millennials. However, that said, you can re-enable achievements with mods.

I agree that it sounds a lot like a bug, though not one I've run across myself. Completing Powering Up is normally required to advance Underground Undercover beyond a certain stage. I assume you had advanced Underground Undercover as far as possible before completing Powering Up, correct?

Any other quests active that might be interfering?

If you've played the game with the intention of completing any of its quests, you've pursued equally pointless goals, equally set by the game's developers. :steammocking:

I've checked all the quests and nothing else is active. I've even brought Glory back to life to make sure it wasn't that. I guess I'll just have to play it through a fifth time. Thanks for your help :)

Matt - Coming from someone who has beaten Skrim V in its entirety 6 times through, I enjoy the brag points. It's really nice when a gamer dude comes up to me and says "You're not a real gamer" only to get the lore and game dump that comes with being the gamer. Achievements aren't for everyone, but you don't need to crap on the people who like them.
