Is there a limit of resources in the game?
I was wondering if there is a limit of resourses in game or not. How i have been planning my settlement this past day would use an extreme amount of steel and wood. But i dont want to end up crippling myself later in the game for other settlements. Im not looking for any glitches or cheats, just want to know if there is a way to keep accumilating resources, maybe trade lines? Im only 6hrs ingame and have not been far enough in to get any trades lines so i dont know exactly how they work.

Also, is there a way to set up an autosave every few mintues? I keep gettin myself in abut 1hr into games looting and finding some really cool stuff then find myself dead during an attack. then when i respwan, all of my stuff is gone and i have to restart all over again. It bumms you out when this happens back to back.

there are trade lines and there is technically no limit to resources, pipe pistols yield wood and steel and vendor sell shipments of bare materials

Awesome. Good to know. How I been building up my settlement is I am trying my make a shanty town with steel walls all the way around with a tunnel in the entrences, that way if i get attacked the banits are not spread out, and if they make it through the tunnels, they hit trip mines and such. thats the idea anyways.

Now that i think of it, will they/can they destroy the steel walls instead of going through the tunnels i made? Hmm, guess I shoudl have researched this more.

Don't get me wrong, resources are technically unlimited in game, but if you're talking wood/steel from other Settlements, IE, trees and scrap salvaged, you may run into a slight lul in your building later on if you REALLY want to build up every Settlement. (As far as I can tell it looks like there's 30 Settlements roughly in all if you do it right.)

I don't think they can actually tear down walls/buildings, at least that hasn't happened to me and I've been attacked a decent bit. They will, however, damage things that require resources to repair, things like turrets, crops, certain buildings (Power generators, pylons, Water pumps) but I haven't seen them just destroy an object without a cheap means of repairing it.

Your strat seems pretty sound for raids, but your walls won't prevent certain things from happening like kidnapping side quests from starting. So even if Sanctuary is completely walled in, people can still be kidnapped. I wish this was preventable because having 30 Settlements can really add up your sidequest and usually result in your settlements happiness dropping if you don't complete them in a timely manner.

Hmm thanks for the insight. Kidnapping you say, i hope i dont run into that for awhile. Im still in sancuaryt building the scrap out of it. I read somewhere that I shoudl always have extra beds and food before I try and get more settlers. Im about 70% done (with what i had planned) with sancuary for walls, defences, housing, beds, and food. Once I feel this place is safe (enough) from raiders and such ill head out do do some more quests and such. Maybe I will post some pics later too see what you guys think. Maybe what I am doing is just too much, or all wrong.

lol by the time you start another settlement you will be to the point where you don't mind 'farming' the command console for unlimited resources anyhow.

I'm going command console free (its super hard lol i want to spawn so much stuff it hurts) until i beat the game and explore about everything, but when i start building other settlements besides my main one ill most likely just add a 10000000 of everything resource wise from the console.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1145/?

highly recommend this mod for MUCH more things you can build in your settlement

Have you tried to not use mods, Mr. Ants?

I usually wait until I have completed the game (as in, the main event) before I start adding things.

I have not used any mods yet. I want to use everything the game has to offer before i use mods or cheats. So a full playthrough would be ideal.

I'm lvl 51 and not ran out of resources. Places respawn with monsters, loot and scrap over a long period of time. There are building caps though for every settlement which is what "size" is. If it gets full it will stop you from building. Some settlements you can build very large and tall while others are just meant to be small. I made the small ones damn good pitstops or trade spots. There are around 15 places I believe. Not every place needs to be a fortress or a castle.

Either use console commands to get yourself easy resources or visit every merchent in the game for "shipments".

I know the Swatter merchent in DC sells wood shipments. Dont remember the steel ones.

Two shops down to the rigth from him. The woman sells one shipment of 100 steel, her robot replacement at night usually sells four 100 steel shipments. You can find that robot in her place to buy from him anytime.

resources are unlimited, BUT each settlement only allows ya to build to a certain size (which I think is stupid)

I wanted to build a perimeter fence for example around all my settlements and can't on some of them.

Which is why I learned the console commands to disable that building limit.

Open up the console, click on the workshop(you have to click on the workshop in particular. Make sure the white reference code shows up at the top of the console) and do....

setav 349 -1
setav 34B -1

Effectively disables max triangle drawing limit and item limits in that particular building zone. YOu will notice the size bar empy completely and never fill.

Build to your hearts content.

Also there is something good to know. Settlements can be utilized for specfic resources. If you find a settlement with a lot of food you can use supply lines from this location to other new settlements. This allows you easily build more farms. Same goes for water. If you built the purifier you now can supply other locations with purified water in your workshop, lowering the water requirement. Purifier needs a major water source.

If you built a settlement that has 10 settlers scraping for resources then you gain more scrap/items.

Water purifier = Adds purified water to workshop
Farmers = Adds food to workshop
Scrapper = Adds random scraping materials/items
Tradeposts = Adds bottle caps

The more people doing these jobs the more quanitity you gain and to spread.
Makes things more interesting when you build different locations that forcus on these.

Be warned if you disable the settlement size limit via console, mod, or glitch, you risk corrupting your save game leaving it unplayable.

That size limit exists for a reason.

Another side affect is disappearing items and system slow down.

There is no limit on building materials they are infinite and respawning. You can get shipments of things like Wood and Concrete from various merchants.
