[HELP] Can't talk to Preston Garvey + Other game breaking bugs

I finished a mission where I had to save some farmers from some Raiders to get them to join the minute men. It then told me to talk to Preston Garvey, so I fast travelled to Sanctuary and tried to talk to him. However, when I pressed E to talk, he wouldn't respond. I looked at the companion app and pressed E at him again, and the companion app would say "view mode" for less than a second and then immediately disappear.
This also happens with Mama Murphy.


My friend said she's experiencing a bug where if she goes into the Steam Overlay, her Tab key is completely unresponsive. And if you've played this game or any other fallout game, you'll know how important the Tab key is.


I also experienced a bug where the Power-Armour from the museum has now gone, and I can't get it back. For some reason, when I woke up form sleeping inside the game, I saw someone who's body was bigger than before, and walked in very short inches. It wasn't until later that I found out they were inside the power-armour, but somehow the power-armour was invisible.

When I went exploring on a mission, and came back, he was back to normal but the power-armour was completely gone. And yes, I have checked the map, and it's 100% gone from existence.


For some reason, characters sound distant when I'm stood directly in front of them, directly staring at them, but looking slightly to my right will make them sound as close as they are, but looking at them from my left makes them sound closer but not close enough to hear them, and in cut-scenes, characters sound extremely distant, to the point where I have to read the subtitles in order to understand them.


I haven't ran into this bug as of late, but this happened to me a lot near the beginning of the game where if I use a terminal, if I'm in there for more than 30 seconds, or even shorter, when I leave the terminal my arms will be in a T-pose and I'll be unable to move, and the only way to fix it is to load from a previous save.


My last good save file was just as I escorted Preston to Sanctuary, which will set me back to only one hour into the game, and I'm currently 7 hours into the game.

In the Data section, is the mission you are talking about highlighted and is Sanctuary highlighted on the Map.

Also, what is your Computer Spec, (including RAM, CPU and GPU)

+ Are you using any mods or the BETA update.

I have installed no mods, and wasn't on the beta at the time, I did install it to see if it fixed any of the issues, which it didn't at all. However, the beta did fix the terminal bug I've had recently. Thanks for responding to this post, I'm sorry for being a ♥♥♥♥♥ earlier, I just had a breakdown.

My specs are listed on my profile, but here they are:
GPU: GeForce GTX 770 (pre-overclocked)
CPU: Intel Core i5-460K @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Your specs are def ok, better than mine anyway and I play mostly Ultra with a i5-4430, 8Gb Ram and gtx 970

I have recently learned to understand that.
The mission I'm on is "Raider Troubles at Oberland Station". I've filled out everything, the last thing to do is to talk to Preston. Preston is highlighted on the map as a waypoint to get to, and talk to, though for some reason he can't be talked to.

The Preston Garvey issue maybe because you haven't returned to the Farm and completed that part of the mission first.

Power Armour can be nicked by settlers if you leave the Fusion Core inside. Always remove it after exiting Power Armour.

I changed my Overlay buttons in Steam setting to CTRL + BACKSPACE and that solved my TAB issue.

I've read about the terminal bug, but can't remember what the solution was, maybe google it. (I think it was something to do with High Resolutions and unlimited FPS)

If all else fails, you could try verifying the cache incase of a corruption.

Ignore the 1st point, I was too slow.

You could try doing another mission that also would involve Preson Garvey and see if that solved it, just wander around other settlements and eventually someone will come to you with a kidnapping or raider issue.

Should I try using console commands to delete him, then respawn him? I'll save before doing that if that's an option.

It's an option, but def save first and maybe back-up your save folder too.

Edit 'save' instead of 'safe'

to delete him enter the console

click on him and type > markfordelete

then save and quit game

then reload the game and enter the console

then type > player.placeatme 00019fd9 1
