Somehow everyone in the Wasteland is a psychic?
So in my first playthrough I wore the vault suit underneath my armor for the entire game and upgraded it with the necessary perks because, hey, free armor points right? *If you are playing a legit playthrough with no mods and you didn't know about ballistic weave* So it was natural that everyone would know you are a vault dweller. But did you know that even if you take off the vault suit and try to pass yourself off as just another mercenary wastelander or be anonymous that people somehow still magically know you are a vault dweller?

Careful, Spoilers!

For example, Piper calls you "Blue" the first time she talks to you in her house even if you aren't wearing the vault suit. She says she can tell by your deer in a headlights look and your pip-boy. So why can't I have just raided a vault and found a working pip boy? Why does that mean I had to live there? And can't my deer in headlights look be because I'm seeing diamond city for the first time? Surely there are wastelanders that have never been there.[\spoiler]

Another Example When you join the BoS Elder Maxon remarks on your history as a vault dweller saying it was "in the reports from Paladin Danse" even if you never told Danse you were a vault dweller and passed yourself off as a mercenary just after the caps and power armor.[\spoiler]

Cmon Bethesda. You know I love you, I play all of your games, but the lack of roleplaying here is starting to get a little too noticeable :\

That's Bethesda for you.

Worst is that a) my character doesn't have a deer int he headlights look. He's killed several dozen people by the time he's gotten to Diamond city, is busy rebuilding a vigilante faction into a potentially legitimate government, and has made contact with the BoS in addition to having encountered and fought synths and dealt with Art vs Art.

and b) you can't tell the *her* to stop caling you 'Blue' or you'll blow her head off. For some reason writers think this sort of forced endearment is something players *like* rather than completely off-putting. You don't know me woman, stop trying to be all intimate.

To be fair have you ever seen a non-vault dweller with a pipboy? At all? In ANY of the games?

The amount of times, I've had to stop and mag dump 30 rounds into a follower, in the hopes they'll shut up and stop moving around randomly, saying the same stupid crap repeatedly.

New Vegas, you are not a vault dweller and you have a pipboy.

And I don't recollect many stupid comments in vegas, because, well, they put effort into dialogue.

Fallout 2. You are a tribal in your tribes sacred vault suit with a pip boy, and everyone calls you a tribal.

Your kidding right? Three Fallout protagonists were non vault dwellers with pipboys as well as Ricky in Honest Hearts who looted his vault suit and pipboy off a dead guy from vault 22.

He was a vault dweller. But, as far as Piper knows, the Fallout 4 guy could have gotten one from another vault dweller like in New Vegas.

yes, because every other person is running around with a pipboy, the situation of the courier getting one is very rare.

One of the guys with the trading caravan in the Fallout New Vegas Honest Hearts DLC has a Pip-Boy on, says he found it on a dead prospector. I do not know of any other times anyone else is seen wearing a pip-boy in any of the Fallout games. I dont know why it seems far fetched that pip-boys wouldnt be found in the hands of scavengers from time to time, from raided vaults etc.
Edit: In the time it took me to type this others have already stated the same lol :)
