charisma-based builds are OP as hell
Without mods, by level 14, with charisma of 10, you can have unlimited caps (currency), best gear and weapons in the game, and unlimited ammunition, including mini nukes and fusion cores, and you NEVER have to worry about crafting materials EVER again.

All you have to do is build your settlement, get to level 14, which is incredibly easy, then do the following:

1 - build as many industrial water purifiers as you can
2 - build a store, any store, usually you start with the general store as its cheapest to build
3 - start selling water to that store until you can build more stores
4 - continue selling water and building even more, and better stores
5 - high charisma means you have settles coming and coming, keep putting them to store duty
6- dont forget 20+ settlers generate 1000+ caps per week passively

In a few weeks, once you have 20+ settlers, 6+ maxed-out mega stores, and unlimited water to sell, you should be swimming in caps

once you are swimming in caps, start buying up top-end weapons, armor and ammunition from your (multiple) weapons vendors. You dont even have to craft any mods, just buy weapons with mods you want, remove mods, and attach to whatever gear you need. Buying what you need completely bypasses need to craft (and waste skillpoints in crafting)

You can build a few adjacent settlements you own also into 20+ people mega-properties, for even MORE passive cap generation.

All this hinges on unlimited purified water to sell, and manpower to man the multiple stores. Industrial purifiers are easy to build, once you have your first one, and 300 caps to build your first store, you are on your way to infinite money. Building more purifiers is easy, because you can just buy up whatever resourses you need from your own vendors for water. And with 20+ population...yeah, multiple stores arent a problem.

Scavenging stations? Picking up trash?? ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥, we roll like true capitalists and just buy what we need from multiple general vendors in bulk. ""War never changes?"" Please. CAPITALISM and FREE MARKET ECONOMICS never changes.

Anyways, its pretty funny that after 6 hours of gameplay i can roll around in gold-plated, cap-encrusted power armor with 100+ fusion cores, and effectively unlimited supply of mini-nukes, minigun ammo, and other goodies. And all my settlers are packing top-end laser weaponry and modded combat armor.

if you use mod to remove the stupid level requirements, you can do this right after to exit the vault, honestly, because if you reprocess stuff from sanctuary, there is enough wood and materials there to build random stuff to get you a few levels you need for marketing perks. After that you only need 300 caps, which you get by taking from your own settlers (every one of them has like 10-20 bottle caps, and you can find some extra caps near sanctuary and red rocket gas station).

Anyways, charisma is most OP stat in the game. it gets you many settlers, thus unlimited money, thus unlimited weapons, armor and ammo. After that, just roll with nothing but a fat man, and apply nuclear power as needed to every situation.

130 hours in. Never felt Caps was a big deal, at all.

Also, you are limited to 20, might be 21, settlers at max charisma.

In addition you can get a hell of a lot more caps going out your self and scavenging. I can clear out a gunner hold up, walk out with 7 assault rifles and 10 other assorted weapons, Wong with all the junk I pick up, then go and sell it all for 2k+ caps and I got to do more then sit around and do nothing :p

It is 21 if you grab the bobblehead at 10 CHR.

unmodded 38 settlers is doable

But the "economy" is broken in general. I agree with the water farming being a near exploitive source of income. Im rolling in caps and but I started with a 3 base Charisma. Charisma builds are not over powered at all and look awful honestly.

The final word is if you want free money yes be a water farmer AND go kills stuff and loot them. There is no need to invest the time in an infinite high rate money machine because it doesnt accomplish anything.

i havent got to 38 yet. but yeah, 10+10 charisma + bobblehead + charisma from gear + vault-tec paint on power armor that gover over the gear, plus alcohol + drugs - Something like that. But alcohol and drugs wear off so settlers might leave, not sure how it works.

i have right now 25 or so dudes in sanctuary, havent bothered to unlock other settlements yet.

an INT STR hybrid build is actually the most OP, since you get the most overpowered items/weapons/armors in the game via crafting, not trading. Or are you saying you got a lovely 81 automatic shotgun with piercing? A lazer rifle that shoots faster than a minigun? You also get things like the stealth boy upgrade for power armor.... so yeah.

Its my second play-through :) i wanted to find a way NOT have to loot trash mobs, and start the game with normal weapons from the get-go.

Anyways doing it this way is more fun i think, you dont waste time looking in every nook and cranny for that aluminium TV tray or duct tape. Like your companions say - its not even worth picking up boss.

gee, what an ass.

Anyways my method becomes much more interesting once you mod the game by adding craftable weapons, armor, ammunition, additional structures.

Then you really do need the caps to buy up crafting materials by the ton.

This is really the only thing you need to do. You may have issues converting the water into caps without a ton of shops, but you can always use the water as direct currency.

Who the hell puts most of the SPECIAL stats at 1, but leave a couple at the max?

alternative ways to play the game aren't bad, it adds more to do and it's not as broken as getting 10+INT, 5 CHR, Idiot Savant, well rested/lovers embrace and squirrel stew before save scumming whenever you hand in a quest reward hoping for the 400~800% EXP bonus that, that gives.
