Does anyone find plasma weapons any good?
They're rare, do a bit more damage than laser weapons, cost considerably more, have considerably less available ammo, but are substantially cooler.

anyone find them cool at all? I mean I guess they produce nuclear waste upon goo-ifying people, but that's really it. Oh and they do half kinetic half energy damage, cool I guess?

By far the best all purpose gun you can use, aside from the assault rifle.

They are way cooler than lazer weapons and more poerful imo. Right now I have a plasma snipe rifle that ignores 30% of enemies' ballistic and energy defense and does 110+ for both ballistic and energy damage. And the way it shoots sounds like powerful gun. But the ammo for plasma weapons are kind of rare and expensive .

Ok, but plasma cartridges at barter 2 (or whatever it's called) is like 7 caps.

I could spend 150 caps for 50 rounds for 5.56
or 150 caps for 26 plasma cartridges.

I beat the main quest, all I have as weapons in my inventory is the gauss rifle and a sniper plasma rifle with reflex sights. Both of them do the most output damage at "end game" and any other weapons are usually just a weight waste to have around unless you like automatic weapons. Could anyone explain to me why the assault rifle has less damage than a .45 combat rifle even though the combat rifle has a lot more damage output maxed out?

ammo is rough on the player in this game

thats why having melee skills help to save ammo for when you REALLY need it

also luck perk to find caps and ammo HELPS ALOTTTTTTT

Really? No automatic/trash weapons? Ok.

I only really carry 4 weapons with my now, a shotgun laser rifle, assault rifle, fully upgraded firey plasma rifle and a guass rifle. Plasma rifle besides the guass rifle is the best all purpose weapon type in the game.

SO yeha I would say they are pretty damn good.

Yep, Automatic weapons is just an extra nice playstyle if you like to spray your enemy close but you better get the ammo perk for it. You could take down enemies in 1 or 2 shots with semi auto even in very hard or survival difficulty.

yeah but I mean, you really wanna be spending your plasma cartidiges on low level raiders or friggin mosquitoes? It's annoying to keep reloading and missing.

This is coming from a guy that roams around with 4 melee weapons, one for each speed :)

You start making over 50k in caps later down the road so I just keep the things I collect into my safe and buy ammo like it's nothing, plus having the ammo perk helps alot to as well so I'm still roaming around with 2 weapons, plus having max nuclear physicist helps keep my power amor running for over 100 hours due to having over 100 fusion cores, I don't know why people are complaining about that. I guess I'm ocd to liking having 1 or 2 weapons, having 4 melee seems fun if you wanna switch around but if one thing works I tend to keep it around for a while, I had my combat rifle for a long ass time due it having the most damage output until the gauss rifle and plasma rifle came around my level.

how the hell do you get to 50k caps, by selling anything and everything except what you need? Shops that never function for me? I'm kinda a lootwhore, I hold unto all my missiles, ammo, weapons and ♥♥♥♥.

As for having multiple melee weapons, its for utility. Sometimes I'm fighting squishy raiders with split laser rifles that cut through my health quickly so I pull out my trusty switch, other times I'm fighting deathclaws with my powerhammer or supermutants that like to block my powerhammer with my swishkabab. And the ripper slices through ghouls like a hot knife through butter. Atleast from my experience on hard, 1 melee weapon is hard because it seems like Bethesda sat down and said "hey lets make it so the strongest melee weapon isn't necessarily the best" unlike ranged weapons, cause enemies have certain defensive measures coded in like high damage resistance or being annoying blocking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I'm tempted to go a full Lazors and Tech playthrough, but I doubt it's economically viable early game. Btw, which companion did you use? I've been lugging around 500 lbs with Dogmeat most of my game.

I'm also a loot hog but in this game having charisma perks helps selling your stuff to vendors that now have 800 cap selling than your usually 400 so everytime I come into town I sell all the ammo, armor, weapons to them. I see playing melee seems like a different world because you're so close up, I should def check them out and see how it plays! And yeah you don't really start getting early tech anyways until you hit your 30's or 40's because they don't start appearing commonly in the beginning and it tends to be expensive, that's why the combat rifle makes up for it with it's abundant .45 rounds and high damage output. For my companion I usually bring around each of them to finish up their quests and companion perks so it varies for that, due to roaming around in power armor now I don't need to worry about carrying anything.

I suggest investing in nuclear physicist so you can run around in power armor meleeing the crap out of things, you'll def be a true grognak haha

Im in the same boat.

End game the only weapons i use are the following
Gauss rifle
Plasma sniper that does double damage if the target is at full health
Single shot assault rifle to help save ammo on the above two.
Legion Nov 26, 2015 @ 9:45pm
Plasma shotgun is brutally powerful at endgame.

Chews through ammo quicker than the sniper variant, but I find the plasma gun to be most effective at close range while the Gauss gun is ideal for long range.

Eh. I used to pick up and sell everything in F3 and FNV, but now it's not possible, since junk is needed for building stuff. And some weapons and armor parts have good, rare components too. So it's harder for me to get caps than before.
