Just flat out steel that you don't have to break things down for? Not that I can think of. I've found small amounts on occasion but nothing note worthy.
Don't try and rush build your settlement, make it a labour of love. Build a bit, go explore the wasteland, fill your bag, then return and build some more.
Steel will be the least of your dramas. Come back to us when you need copper, oil and adhesive.
Yah, just go crazy with scrapping. Cars and barrels are a good spot, but also make sure you're transfering everything out of the workshop bench, as settlement areas won't actively share resources unless you've assigned a supply line
