Cheap and effeicient ways to get steel?
So Im low on steel. I'm building a wall around my settlement and I don't have the steel to finish my wall. I would buy a shipment of steel from a shop but I dont have the caps. Is there a way to get steel without having to pay and waste time scavanging?

Without having to pay and spend time scavenging? The console is the only other way. Though if you want to spend as little time as possible savenging, the drive in has a lot of it sitting around in the form of cars.

Scrap cars whenever you can also the majority of common junk has steel.

There's no like area in the game filled with steel? Like some kind of raider base or super mutant base or any other area in the game rich in steel? I don't mind how difficult the opponents will be, I have the gear. Is there any place like that in the game? And I'll check out the drive in.

Just flat out steel that you don't have to break things down for? Not that I can think of. I've found small amounts on occasion but nothing note worthy.

cans, they break down to two steel, and weigh 0.1 kg.

scavenge anything metal. you "Tag" items so it's easier to know what contains the materias you want.

There's a huge amount of steel out in the world, probably one of the most common materials in the game. A place full of cans and tin cans, as well as the more uncommon aluminum, is the Federal Ration Stockpile, south of Sanctuary, past the highway.

Uhh there isnt really a active way to get materials(other then mass junking and buying shipments) but having extra settlers gives a passive income to that towns resources, scavanging stations help with that.

Assault rilfe, they are the hidden jewl of getting steel, just go to a gunner strong hold, they almost all carry assault rifles, they scrap for 11+ steel each. Take a followe with you as a pack mule and load them up.

I just built a wood wall. Cheaper with supplies. Just have good defense. Make guard towers.

Loads of bits in the game break down into steel.

Don't try and rush build your settlement, make it a labour of love. Build a bit, go explore the wasteland, fill your bag, then return and build some more.

Steel will be the least of your dramas. Come back to us when you need copper, oil and adhesive.

Yeah, steel is one of the most abundant resources. Just wait until you need screws or gears or oil

Haha Im actually good on those. And I decided to break down everything from sanctuary and got a good 172 steel. Gonna head to the drive in now for more steel

Yah, just go crazy with scrapping. Cars and barrels are a good spot, but also make sure you're transfering everything out of the workshop bench, as settlement areas won't actively share resources unless you've assigned a supply line

One very simple trick i have found, some settlements have stuff just outside the workbench range, but i have found certain things, like, what looks like an engine block, near the bridge, in the water next to santuary, out of workshop build range, that you can actually drag into workshop range, then scrap in build mode. How many locations have stuff like this, I'm not sure, also not sure what weight restrictions different items have, or if power armor lets you drag bigger items.
