Can't save Kent Connolly
So, I've been doing the Silver Shroud quest line, and without going into too much detail, it's impossible to save him. All the youtube videos I look up have your character coming down this elevator and there's a little dialog section, however, for me, I get half way there and the raiders start fighting a bunch of robots, which alerts the gangsters below, and they kill him before I can even find the room.

Anyone know any kind of workaround for this or is it just another lost cause?

All,

I'd tried a slew of various fixes for this (on PS4). Finally, I found one that worked...

You'll need:
-At least seven to ten robot damaging grenades, exploding projectiles, et alia. (Or more if your aim with such devices aren't so accurate.)
-A good aim. (See aforementioned requirement.)

Having had taken a three month break from Fallout recently, I decided to jump back in and so loaded up my most recent save. Wouldn't you know it, it was in the Milton General Hellspital—slapped square in the middle of this frickin' bug. (Guess it's these kinds of events that provoke a break from Fo4 in the first place... :) )

A baked carrot bread cake, two hour nap, and a curse-you-buggy-Bethesda-programming-bug-but-I-understand-because-IT'S-SO-MASSIVE-inner-rant later I finally made it to an alive Kent. Here's how I did it.

When you first walk into the hospital (remember: already dressed as the Silver Shroud—gun and all) you should hear a robot of some kind off to your left, up in an overlooking room with broken out glass. If not walk around a bit, or maybe exit and reenter.

Your goal here is to lure out and destroy around four or five robots from this hall/balcony/gallery area. The last one took forever. It was a Mr. Handy type of flying bot that kept repeating dialogue such as: not sure what I'd do if I did actually find someone, or smoking and soda are staples in a healthy, long-lasting life. Just keep shooting loud guns to get them to come to you. I was jumping up towards the room from atop the receptionist desk firing my .50 cal, rockets and the loudest guns I had. I would even walk in the next couple of rooms (where the hole is in the ceiling that the robots might sometimes fall down to get to you) and shoot up through the hole in the ceiling. Also, there is a door partly open on the first floor that you can see into that I would shoot through.

Just keep luring em' out and taking them down. One of the times I tried this it actually caused the death of Kent—but only once. And I tried this three or four times.

Once you wander around the first floor (maybe even go down to the basement, but I didn't need to) and don't hear any other bots, go try to reach Kent again. Even though you'll likely still get shot at once you exit the second elevator (the area that was causing the early demise of Kent) you should be able to soldier past them and to the third elevator. If you were experiencing the same bug I was you should now be able to finish the quest.

Note: At first I tried to do this with my wedding ring on, but took it off just in case it was not considered part of the Silver Shroud outfit. Figured I'd include this in the fix just in case for some odd reason it did have anything to do with anything.

Happy trekking,
Robert

(Thanks to nexttothecoffin, from a previous Reddit posting of this issue, for originally articulating this solution in specificity.)

A bit late, but...

I was having the no-dialogue bug consistently and am at a point in the game where all the baddies take a hell of a lot of bullets to go down, so I doubt jet would have helped. So I had to think outside the box.

Makes Kent unkillable. The guys will just keep shooting him in the head and he won't die.

i used tai command to disable ai and kill senjin and all raiders, only way for kent to survive this bug.

if i enabled tai before the final elevator (or even when i leave elevator) senjin and others insta kill kent.

Berry Mentats and the Targeting HUD mod for power armor helmets are known to cause this.

I entered the hospital and saw the protectron on upper story broken window. I started shoting at it and a few minutes later, among shouts from human enemies, there it was written on screen, optional saving kent connolly failed. Then a few more try, through basement or jetpacking to where robot was etc, before I get to that elevator, they'd execute Kent. Then somehow I was able to lure robot downstair from that hole in the ceiling and took it down near the entrance.

From then on by constantly F5ing at every clean turn of time, I was able go jetpacking through that hole and arrive in front of the elevator. From that save point, I lost kent a few more time with feeling of groundhog's day/russian doll etc, solution was using combo of pscyho and jet/ultra jet. Even that was not enough. You gotto have high enough of action points for current weapon to blow the heads of main enemies standing by Kent. It was not enough for me, always one or the other kept ending up shooting kent. So as soon as I jacked up on chems, I rushed to the small stairs on left side of where kent was being held. From that close up, I chugged down nuke quantum or such for ACs and headshot-killed the two main enemies. The rest didn't shoot at kent so I was able to finish them with ease. I don't know if this is related to the bug mentioned but It gave me one hell of an anxiety until Kent was saved.

Odd flex, but sure.

As said above, if you don't have jet and can't onehit kill the guy, there's no time to save kent after the speech dialog even on very easy.
i lost time trying and it started to get on my nerves.
the thing is, as said before, you need to convince him to kill you first, i used all the silverchroud dialogs options because it was fun but looks like it's not to be used here,
just choose the dialogs "you think you are strong?" then next use the dialog " kill me first" or something like that, it's red so you need to sucess the dialog.
so basically just make F5 quicksave in the elevator before you advance toward the guy and all the speech thing start, in case you don't success the "kill me first" dialog, just reload.
nobody will try to kill Kent, you kill them all and you can't get rid of this ♥♥♥♥ with Kent alive.
ps : even if it's red, you can sccess at first try, i had 6 charisma.
I post this cause some post above helped me remember this option and that it really pised me of to try and retry to save kent when the guy kills him in half second after the speech.
lost 1 hour on this ♥♥♥♥ not fun.
It is even not a bug i think, it's intented so. Basically you can't even have fun speaking like silvershroud cause it result in kent's death.
anyway i don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about kent alive or not or his upgrade to the costume i will never wear again, i just wanted to finish with him alive for the sake of doing it.

Sorry for the necro, but since this is still an ongoing issue, I wanted to share how I got past it: doing what most other people said, I found the Protectron in the lobby, and using a few pulse grenades (aided by the throwing arc from maxed out Demolitions Expert because Spray & Pray main), I lured most of the robots into the balcony and bombed them without setting off the raiders, then once I got to the second floor, the raiders cleared out the last Handy without setting off Sinjin. I also found using Deliverer helps, because all my other guns alerted Sinjin before I even left the lobby

Saving Kent has three issues:
1. Some people lack the damage to take out Sinjin and the raider set to kill him.

2. People walk into using a power armor helmet that triggers the fight.

3. The robots or companions aggro the fight early.

As with other Charisma-based stuff, some Grape mentats and a clothing item or two make the speech check to have them attack you instead relatively easy even for low-Charisma characters. Or you can just be patient with reloading until you succeed.

High Charisma, Jet, Lock Joint Syringe.

I'm doing this Quest always with only the Costume, the Siver Sub and a Syringer (with said Syringe).

Needs a bit of luck and F5 to scare Sinjins companions and more luck to freeze him but its a nice grand finale for the main Game Silver Shroud Story.

I had the same bug, I was able to solve it easily with the jet pack of the power armor.
When you enter inside the building, go to the left an use the jet pack to enter through the hole in the roof, since you no need to use the second elevator, the bug doesn't activate.

They are needed many of these drugs: take those for interactions and/or those to slow down time and increase the damage.

First you have to win the interaction to terrorize Sinjin's men, it's better.
