Settlement Sizes in Triangles and Floors
I know a lot of you are probably using various mods and methods to unlock settlement size, but I personally don't want to risk the possible game-breaking outcomes that come with those, so settlement size still matters to me. I started tracking the sizes of each settlement and figured I'd share what I found so far in case there's anyone else in the same position.

What I did was scrap (or send to the workstation) everything that I possibly could in each settlement. Then I opened the console, selected the workstation, and used the following commands:

getav 348 - To get the current (e.g. the un-removabale) number of triangles that are being drawn in the settlement

getav 349 - To get the maximum number of triangles that can be drawn in the settlement.

The minimum value will not be 100% accurate, as I almost certainly missed a few small objects here and there. There were also a few cases of some items (mostly beds) that I could not remove. But I think it's close enough to give a valuable idea of how much space each settlement has.

I also decided to try to calculate the maximum height of each settlement, since I noticed that varied wildly. I couldn't find any sort of command to get my current Z (height) position, so instead what I did was create a series of ladders until I could create no more. The height is measured in how many "floors" a settlement can have.

There are two important things to note about this method of measurement. First, you can technically get one more floor than what I have listed if you count a ladder going nowhere a floor. You can build one more ladder above the numbers I have below, but you can't build anything else at the top of that ladder.

Second, the number of floors could also vary for settlements on hills depending on where you start. If you start at the lowest point and I started higher, your number could be greater. If you started higher and I started lower, my number could be greater. This was the best method I could think up, and while not 100% accurate, is still a pretty handy metric.

I'll try to keep this updated as I unlock more settlements. If anyone else wants to do some of the ones I don't have here, that would be great as well.

Feel free to share this elsewhere if you find it useful!

What do you mean by floors. How high you can build?

edit: never mind I'm too damn tired to be reading long posts, eyes skipped over it.

I don't know how anyone could make Tenpines Bluff reach it's maximums without being really cluttered.

Of all the settlements, Hangman's and Tenpines are the two that I've found so far that are really small in terms of actual space. To get them really built up, I feel like I'd have to go with the Local Leader perk or whatever to ship food in. Hangman's at least seems like it's meant as more of an outpost in the environs of the city... but Tenpines is an actual settlement that has people on it right away.

Interesting info you have so far. What really surprises me is the maximum for height at Red Rocket... 10 floors seems like a lot, given that the land/space is not significantly wider than Tenpines IIRC.

Updated with some more. You can get up to 19 stories at Abernathy Farm! What?!

I'm glad people eventually noticed this post. I was worried that it got burried for good.

Yeah, Red Rocket is probably one of the better settlements, at least for a "base" and not a "town." Usually settlements with structures will have said structures eat away at their budget, but Red Rocket gives you the everything for free. Even the trees and other scrappable structures don't take up any of the budget. It could just be a display error, I haven't actually tried to build to the cap there yet myself.

I wanted to like Hangman's, but from a "role playing" perspective, I feel like you're just putting yourself insite of a shooting gallery. Buildings are not walls! I'm sure it doesn't actually matter as far as game mechanics go, but it felt like a poor tactical location to me.

Right now I'm actually looking at Greygarden. You can build up to the two-story freeway for what I hope will be some interesting concepts. I really like building around pre-existing, unique structures.

Castle was a disappointment. I don't know what's taking up nearly half of the budget, but I couldn't get it to go any lower than what I have listed here. I even scrapped all of the pre-existing lights, which I'm sure most people would want to keep.

Love the floor count, thanks a lot for doing it. I plan on building a tall tower at some point so having this information is vital. If I were you I'd focus on getting the floor count first, as that should be the least amount of work, then posting this information as a Community Guide on Steam and a page on the fallout wiki.

I find some low ceilings to be very disappointing. So far it seems Abernathy is the only place where you can go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy with a shanty skyscraper.

i suggest you put this in the guides section once you are done :D

Amazing work. Thank you. I hope this helps fine tune mods even before the GECK comes out.

I'm beginning to think that my Red Rocket Min number isn't very accurate. That's where I usally drop and scrap things, which I understand is one of the ways to lower the usage at a settlement. I guess this is why it shows 0 for me there even when there are definitely existing items that should be taking up part of the budget.

Sanctuary might be a little low as well, but not by much.

Sorry for the confusion!

Abernathy 16 floors...is this a mistake?
Why is it so much more than every other area?
