How to break the minuteman quest loop?
I don't want to fail any quests so I end up doing minuteman quests non stop and haven't had much chance to continue exploring for myself for a few days now.

Is there a way to put the 'quest failed' timer on hold?

I wasn't sure if you can stop the timer by completing the objective but not handing the quest in to farmers or Preston.

Has anyone been able to stop the quests coming at you non stop?

lol they r endless. U can do as many as u want. Most of them r literatelly the same quest with the same place. Just ignore them nothing will happen if it failed. Preston dont care.

Take as many quests at once that preston garvey will give you (Talk to him after he gives you a quest, he might give you another)

Finish all the quests, return to the settlements to finish the quest with THEM

Then when all your quests that Preston gave you say "Go talk to Preston Gar4vey"

Don't ever talk to Preston Garvey again, until you want to get stuck with more quests

I got sick of the Radiant Quests he was always sending me on, so after I finished 2 quests he gave me, I got paid from the settlements, then never talked to him after that.

Now I can explore and stumble on different quests

I just dont do the last step (talk to Preston). When the quest timer ran out - I got a Quest succeeded notice. Happened with one, the other two are still on deck. In the meantime, Preston has left me alone. It doesn't always work to not talk to him when you finish the quest - he will catch you if you're passing by. :/ I'm with you - I HATE to fail quests. If the timer runs out after you've saved them, you will succeed anyway.

That's what I do. Also, don't get too close to Garvey because then they will auto-complete.

Ah cool, I did this with one quest for a while as I seemed to be able to carry on without any alerts but had another pop up, I'm thinking I might relocate my entire house and gear to another location so I don't get all these random quests thrown at me while I am trying to craft stuff.

Though it does sound like I'll be left alone as long as I have 2 quests to hand in to Preston.

EDIT - thx killa and cassiels I just read your after typing this :) Relocating might be fun, I just need to pick a nice spot without any settler trolls asking me for help there :D

You can break the cycle fairly easily, once you know how.

The trick is to go talk to him to turn in your finished quest. He'll thank you, then start saying something about "something else". When he starts on that malarky, back up out of his conversation range. Your previous quest should then complete, and he won't have given you a new one.

Repeat as necessary until you've finished turning in all the quests.

Optionally, exile him to a backwater settlement, before doing all this. If you're really afraid of him giving you another quest.

Ya, I actually think that's what happened with the last one. I just walked near him.

Just finished moving to hangmans alley or w/e it's called.

Can't believe moving all my stuff and building the basics to store everything really took 4 hours!! :O

Though I did squeeze in a few shopping trips to sell unwanted gear and also practice some building, I found out you can't actually build very high, never tried more than two storeys before.

Ok, it's confirmed. I successfully ended a settlement quest by letting the timer run out. I just didn't talk to Preston for the last step. The success flag happens when the settlers pay you. This will keep those rinse and repeat settlers quest from piling up.

Thanks for the confirmation ;)

I take it by success flag you mean that the quest cannot fail as it's already in the final phase and just needs either handing in or timing out.

they can be handy as loot runs though. The locations you visit usually have had all loot respawned, and if you into build settlements everywhere, it can be nice for extra resources.

Yeah, when you want them ofc, plus extra bits of xp :)

redoing the quests over and over. is a good way to level without opening to much of the main story. i like to strech the game out.

It's handy for that, a sort of opposite to end game.
