Just met Darla walking past the Med-Tek building.

What's up with that? I don't really know how Bethesda's RPGs work in that manner but how is it possible that I met a quest-specific NPC just casually walking around in high heels and a nice dress? She even has the quest-related lines when I interact with her. She survived the Skinny Malone quest and talked about going back to their parents' place. I wouldn't be suprised if I did not complete this quest like a 100 game hours ago. I'm confused.

Well believe it or not NPCs actually do "walk" all the way back to where-ever they are going. I doubt they trek is being simulated but it will take time for them to get "home"

On the other hand, I doubt Darla is actually marked as a resident of Diamond City in-game, so after the quest she would technically have no place to go, hence wandering outside. The fact that she has no other dialogue outside the quest also seem to indicate that Bethesda never intended for her to be an active resident of the Diamond City.

Yeah man I know they walk but I'm suprised because I completed the qest a long time ago, that's why it got me by suprise

When I sent the beer bot to Sanctuary I could track his entire trajectory in real time as I completed other stuff.

I thinks she, and a few others, get moved to the "random encounter" pool when the quest is over. You can meet Institute survivors as well after that's all done.

That is a really strange thing to see. I can not doubt it though.I have seen a lot of strange stuff over my dozens of play throughs.

In one of my earliest games I remember encountering Amelia Stockton with Fred O'Connel right around Abernathy Farm. I tried to duplicate it a couple times and had no success.

Although the one thing I did not try was the console command of moveplayer to id# in such an attempt.

Makes sense. I encountered Skinny Malone in the "random encounter" house south of Drumlin Diner many in game days after completing that quest. Apparently his gang loses respect for him and he's left wandering the commonwealth if you talk Darla down and he gives you the 10 count.

This reminds me of one of the times I was messing around with the super mutants outside Med Tek. I ran inside to "escape" and one of my provisionor's brahmin followed me inside.

So I finished rescuing Nick earlier today. Then I was out searchign the Conconcord area for Ron Staples and Doc Anderson (since I hit 20 population) and ran into Skinny Malone.

I dead ass ran into the exact same thing. I looked up where Darla goes because I ran into her at Med-Tek Research same as the guy above and it brought me to this thread. Wack.

Edit: I followed Darla, she's set to follow the road up a bit and then turn around, she goes back around the road corner and then turn back around to continue her path. Seems like she's just stuck in that loop for all time. RIP Darla

Yeah if you choose the right choices you can have Darla, Skinny, Jack and Edgar all turn up as random encounters.

I thought it was a nice touch of seeing the effect of your choices, but with the occurrence rate being so low...

I have 5000 hours and have only seen them a few times. Which is why I took screenshots.

Funny thing about Ricky Dalton. If you make the Railroad go hostile he forgets to remove his essential flag, lol.

Yeah I have ran into him at the church random encounter spot just south of Jamaica Plains.
