Dogmeat perk
I love dogmeat , but i am not sure i understand what the dog attack perk does, for example the first level of the perk says that dogmeat will hold my enemies, but i have seen him (whitout me putting any points in the perk) hold enemies ,like raiders, by the arms or drag them by the leg making it a lot easier for me to execute them.

So does the perk give me something extra on top of what dogmeat already does on is own??

He doesnt hold them down in the same way, without the perk he will knock down and finish off people, but with the perk he will legit sit there and hold them down for a long time and i think it also gives you a better vats chance.

the second tier makes him break limbs and i forget what the 3rd tier does

ye ye, but overall the perk is useless anyway. better to use it on perks like gun nut or armor or something, there are way better followers

There might be better followers but you can use Dog AND the lone wanderer perk, which in my opinion beats out having any of the other companions. 250 additional carrying capacity, higher personal damage, some minor damage and the occasional hold and damage from dog is way better than most of the other companions, especially if you prefer the solo feel.

That's because you were originally meant to have Dogmeat AND a human companion. A lot of things are set up to account for it - the Attack Dog perk, how Lone Wanderer works, the fact that other companions can gain rep if you use Dogmeat, etc.

But the AI is atrocious, so it was changed (very, very) late in development without bothering to remove any of the things above.

Dogmeat is unique in that his role isnt really damage, its being a distraction and he can pin targets down for a short time and keep them occupied, as you see when he grabs a limb or knocks them down. So far I have liked Dogmeat teh best. but atm In my game I am taking on a few followers to see there personality and what quests they offer, but plan to go back to dogmeat once I am done.

The Dog perk basicly increases the VATS chance to hit when Dogmeat grabs them. 2nd, can brake/cripple limbs. 3rd Chance to make them bleed. It isnt a usless perk unless your not using dogmeat.

i saw a mod that allows 2 followers, but it was just a list of console commands and people reported alot of bugs when doing it :/ I wished i could use piper and dogmeat

I've no doubt that there will eventually be mods that both unlock extra companions and that do the work on the AI that Bethesda couldn't be bothered to - they ship these games 3/5ths complete and the community does the rest, sadly.
