No way to undo this.
P.S. The game never forced you.
People like OP are "majoring in Journalism"
No wonder the media is filled with idiots.
Secondly, allow me to explain why I'm saying I was forced: Once in the institute, I was asked if I was going to join by the 4 members I was told to meet. In each dialogue, I selected the "unsure, I dont know, not sure" options located on the left hand side. Never once did I select an option which said "join the institute". I did eveything possible to leave it open-ended. If maybe means yes, Bethesda needs to patch that. Thats ridiculous.
Secondly, at the time, I was not aware you could simply fast travel out. Its not spelled put particularly well, all Dr.Lee says is "the way you came in" which is a lie, because I did not fast travel into the institute. Surely, somebody else but me must see the obvious loophole there...
Finally, Im assuming that console commands are unable to reset quests as they have previously been able to do since nobody has suggested this method. Due to my frequent quicksaves, I do not have a save before I "chose" to side with the institute.
I ran around and watch them just killing eachother. Hell of fun lol.
