I've been using the castle recently and I couldn't get more than 16 settlers. Turns out this is because your max settlers is 10 + your charisma stat. Try sending her to an empty settlement to see if that works. Still though for me she won't budge.
Which is funny because Codsworth (and dogmeat) do not add to the settler count, such as when I send them off to red rocket. I got Dogmeat, Codsworth, Strong, and Curie at red rocket. Counts as 2 people (though unlike Strong, Curie is all happiness tanking because no food no water.)
I've made sure that the settlements were below capacity. I've got maxed charisma with basically all of the settlement building perks. My biggest settlement currently has 28 people. I've tried sending her to nearly empty settlements, and she still just goes back to Vault 81.
I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in experiencing this. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next patch.
If you do mod this issue out before it gets fixed with a patch, could you mention it in this thread? I'd really appreciate it! :)
My favorite companions are Piper, Cait, Curie, MacCready, and Nick Valentine. I keep all of them, along with Dogmeat, at Sanctuary (aside from Curie, obviously, and Nick, who stays at the detective agency because I feel like he's got important work to do lol) so I can more easily switch between companions without having to send the one I'm dismissing on a long walk back home. I'd love it if Curie could join everyone at Sanctuary.
It's worth pointing out that I tried sending her to a settlement before romancing her, and encountered the same issue then. The problem also existed before completing her companion quest.
She likes it there.
And she is quite eager to get banged by you again, don't worry!
During the phase of Hole in the Wall, as you re-enter the entrance from Commonwealth to Vault 81 via elevator, you are required to return to the doctor's office to give the cure to Dr. Forsythe. At this moment there are many bugged outcomes where Curie will not have caught up with you yet (I re-entered the vault after unloading my haul and she failed to follow me).
Once you complete the dialogue with the Doc, she has a incredibly brief window amongst all the commotion where she will try to chat with the player. I bugged out of the dialogue (without realising) and proceeded to complete the mission. At this point the game bugged and auto-assigned Curie to be my companion (via mention of event text).
Because I missed out on that dialogue during the quest, she returns to the same place just outside the ward where she was meant to initiate it. However, going back to that place does not work as her companion chat overides the original intended event.
I have tried resetting the quests altogether and at certain checkpoints and tried to clone the original Curie before she was a companion. However I was unsuccessful in all attempts. The only potential solution is to restart an old save; however, if anyone can find out how to reset Curie to before she was a companion, this could also solve it (I cannot find such a command for important npcs).
