Long Road: Macready won't give me the password

I'm on the Long Road quest. Macready mentioned he got a password from Sinclair. I've found the executive terminal and it says I need Jacob's Password. I've tried having Macready inspect the terminal but he refuses. I've also had him stand at the terminal while I approach. I've tried leaving the building and comming back. I've finished a mission elsewhere and come back.

Any idea how to get Macready to cough up the password?

So apparently if you've gone to Covenant and picked up Jacob's password in one of the houses, Macready won't give you the password. I assume it's because they have the same name. I had to reload 6 hours of gameplay to before I picked up the password before he'd give it to me. Fortunately I had literally just finished the Human Error quest before I went to Med-Tek Research. Hopefully your situation is similar.

For me it took a while, but he eventually walked up to the terminal and activated it all on its own. I don't think he can actually give you the password, just unlock it on his own. Maybe try moving the quest a stage back with setstage, or using tcl to get through the locked door and move on with the quest?

No. This command doesn't work on this terminal. I've tryed everything. Quest is bugged, McCready wouldn't give me a password.

Yeah is this quest bugged? Usually when a quest tells you to go to such-n-such a place they give you a marker to head there. I am supposed to take him to med-tek, but I see no marker for it. I guess I better google up where that place is.

You must take the "Loag Road Ahead" quest from McCready, meet all conditions and then marker appears above the terminal, at the MedTech. I've already get this quest, green marker appears above terminal, but McCready is stupid moron!

If you have the Password from Covenant that is called Jacob's Password just like the one he gives you, he will not give it to you, dumb Bethesda named it the same as the other...

To fix it, load a Save just before you enter Med-Tek, go into Console and type:

player.showinventory [enter]

search for an Item named "Jacob's Password" note the ID of it and enter

player.removeitem ID [enter]

exit Console and go to and enter Med-Tek Building with him and he will give you the Password and you can finish the Quest.

The unlock command works, but you have to target the computer for it to work. Open the console, and click the computer until you see an item ID in the top middle of your screen. Then use unlock.

- thanks, your a life-saver! I can't even imagine,that i must do such things. I thought that i must put my game cursor on the monitor. So simple and so far to understanding...

or you could use the player.additem 001965f8 1 to get the correct jacob´s password

the problem is "a while" you have to travel with him around the area first. doing whatever you like. Slowly he opens up etc and then go the medtec, if you pick him up right off and go to medtec nothing happens, from VDSG

When I did this, I spent a lot of time wandering with Macready and it wasn't until the 3rd conversation when he offered the quest and I went to Medteck. The bug also had nothing to do with Convenent. My wanderer hasn't entered the settlement, only wandered close enough to get the fast travel location. I certainly don't have the password. I don't know what caused the bug, but I spent several in-game days wandering around the empyt building and approaching the executive terminal. Lots of attempts at ording Macready to open it. Wandering away, doing other quests and returning. After about an in-game month (real life week) I finally used the unlock console command.
