-SPOILER- "Cambridge Polymer Labs" Quest Fail Bug
I have successfully completed the Research Project, but still have the Quest showing "FAILED: Complete the Research Project." I have made and grabbed the power armor chest.
I've been unable to figure out the Quest ID to manually force quest progression, so I've been stuck for awhile now. I have tried commands like "sqt" in the console to find the Quest ID but without success. I hope you can help me to get the Quest ID!

Now just invent time travel to go back six months in time (from now) to tell them your solution.

Super old thread, but I'm adding to it because Cubi's reply solved this for me with one missing detail that I was able to find on my own. First, my quest, unlike most, was NOT marked failed. My next objective after following Molly was to talk to her, (she opened the door to the director's office for me already) but I had already started the decon and she became hostile so I killed her. As such, the quest pointer was on her, but she was dead.

<h1>Steps to solve:</h1>

1. Save your game. It would suck to screw up your save or lose some progress.

DO NOT TYPE QUOTES FOR ANY CONSOLE COMMAND, you CAN copy/paste with CTRL-C and CTRL-V

2. In console ( ` ) type "completeall objectives 000284bc"

3. In console type "completequest 000284bc"

This 3rd step should give you the XP for the quest, move the quest to your completed log, and theoretically should also remove the quest items. I don't know for sure because I had already removed them before trying it. If for some reason any of them are still hanging around in your Misc. inventory, use the list Cubi made to remove them (pasted here for ease).

player.removeitem <base ID> 1

Lists of mats:

11317 Hydrochloric Acid (base ID 0009bc88)
3111 Lithium Hydride (base ID 000a50f7)
413 Gallium (base ID 000a018c)
49 Cobalt (base ID 000a0190)
611 Gold (base ID 000a50f5)
65 Tungsten (base ID 000a018e)

The problem with the quest flow is the player unintenitonally hacks the computer and removes the lockdown before completing the experiment.

I had the same issue with her attacking me during the fight with the director. I was able to complete the quest thanks to the commands. I still have the items in my inventory and am not able to remove them with the command from the 3rd step. I might be doing something wrong but never used the command before. Is it 'player.removeitem <000a50f5> 1' or something more complex since it won't recognize that ID.

Even if you complete it normally the items get stuck in your inventory. They have not weihgt so they are just clutter.

Dont add the brackets, just:
player.removeitem x y

x= The item Base-ID. listed in my post, choose the chem you want to remove.
y= The amount. Each chem is unique, so here its always 1

Example: For removing Hydrochloric Acid you type:

player.removeitem 0009bc88 1

//But, good point. I removed the brackets from my text, to prevent misunderstandings.

Really? Wow. Does Bethesda has no money for QA? I can hardly believe no tester noticed that. :p

It is easier to code the item to not weigh anything than code it so they get removed at end of quest. Since it weighs nothing why bother spending the time to remove them? Especialyl when they gave players the console commands to remove them themself, lol.

Nothing but pure laziness and shortcuts.

seems like they never fixed this bug. sad.

Yeah, the main objective which is to "Complete the Research Project" really shows as "FAILED" later on after doing it. Simply a bug, but the rare power armor torso can still be obtained and the quest completed.

I hate thread necros. But, FWIW:
Reload to where you just walked into the Lab.
Take the Janitor's job (since you really know nothing about polymer synthesis).
Refer to the items previously posted and ensure you grab only the gold, lithium hydride and U238 (this will prevent you from being stuck with the other crap in the inventory unless using a console command to remove them).
Kill only the ghouls as needed.

!!! Do not use the option to bypass the security lock-down or this can result in the quest failing !!! (This will also cause the turrets and Molly going hostile on you).
If you're unsure of what to do. Do a quick save (if possible) and if you made a mistake, go back and try not to repeat it.

Complete the project normally then go see Molly. Let Molly know the project is done.
She will end the lock down and you can safely exit with the new power armor torso.
Follow Molly to the Director's office.
Let Molly deal with the ailing director. (intervene only if necessary).
Let Molly finish her epitaph about the director. She'll then pay you (minus taxes and benefits) and then she'll shut down.
Walk out.
