Intelligence vs luck
Hey all. Basically I want to start over as I have more understanding of specials .. Last chat majority was put into intelligence and charisma. I want to play a big gun tank with power armor this time.

For experience am I better off taking idiot savant or use higher intelligence points? If I go luck route will taking gun nut nullify the chance bonus? Thanks

Actually, it's better to do idiot savant and high intellegence, remember high Intel gives you more XP for everything and idiot savant gives your a very random boost, if you have 10 Intel and full idiot savant, you have like a 10% chance to get 3x 100% XP from high Intel.

Idiot Savant will give you more experience than a high intelligence, especially if you're willing to save-scum a bit (save before turning in a quest, then reload until Savant procs). The big difference between the two stats will be which perks you want to access sooner.

In the long run, you can max out anything and everything. There's no level cap.

The difference in additional XP between Int 1 and Int 10 is roughly 25%, which is quite a bit but compared to how important Int was in previous fallout games it is basically a ridicolously little advantage you get there.

You want Int to be at 5 (hacking) or 6 (science) anyways since no matter what kind of playstyle you choose the crafting will always be important. The way i see it however there really isn't a reason to put it any higher than that right off the bat.

Int 9 does however become rather relevant if you want to make heavy use of the power armor.

I also don't really see how a character like you are planning here would profit much from charisma. Do you like companions? Do you enjoy base building?

Because if you answered those questions with no then CHR is basically pointless. You can get yourself some gear to pass speech checks and other than that... charisma has nothing to offer and does not help you kill stuff.

This post has all the information you need. But in short: For pure xp, it is best to have 1 INT and as high of an idiot savant as you can. However, with 10 int and idiot savant you make almost as much. With 14 int+ and idiot savant you make slightly more, but you need lots of int gear on obviously.

Lone Wanderer is extremely powerful for a solo run.

I meant last character was high intelligence and charisma. That's why I'm thinking of starting over as it doesn't fit the playstyle i want to go for. Thanks for responses so far!

High luck, high strength, high perception, some endurance.

In survival you can invest in the two at the condition to take drugs. You can have 10+ int and 10+ luck and benefit from one or other. The luck is more interesting in combat and the int more interesting during other actions, particularly when you need high int to craft more drugs or weapons.

When you take 1/2 jet, psychojet ect, that lower your intelligence to 1. If you have optimized your luck you can gain mass xp.

It's in this way I reached the level 194 a long time ago in survival vanilla. During my play I not rarely see a 2000xp and more with just one kill. Jumping 3 or 4 level with just one kill. But leveling is exponential. Going more 194 is very long and you also start to encounter less boss mob.

The other important point at high level like 194 you encounter very hard mob, if you have optimized your luck and your weapon receiver you drop a lot of criticals. It's not a big luxe vs a company of high hp enforcer super mutant.

Probably don't want to go 1 int on a gun person. Unless you don't want to mod your guns.
