I was able to give it the red hotrod paint (unlocked from a magazine).

This is incorrect.

I am currently running around in my X01 using the flames custom paint job. I don't know about others as thats the only one I have found.

I did try all of the other supplied options though, military , vault-tec etc. They all worked as well.

So what skill am I missing then? You dont need specific skills to have "paintjobs" displaied. The whole option is missing.

The Flames one does not require any specific skill nor material.

Some of the others require just mats, or mats + skill

Here you should be able to see the custom job applied and another paint job listing mats and skill.

AFAIK any crafting skill will show the required skill to the side. If it has a lock on the pic it means your skill is not high enough.

some paint jobs are armor specific, ie minutemen=t-45, railroad=t-51, BOS=t-60, institute=X-01
