There's enough options, I think. Though I haven't found anything with better stats than the BOS uniform.
I change my looks every 2-3 hours with this :)
However, there is nothing in the game that will protect you better than the suit you start with. (without the mod)

Protip: One of the quests in the railroad faction line gives you access to ballistic weave, with it you can reinforce pre war clothes such as suits, dresses, and even some hats, to have ridiculous armor ratings. Want to be a dapper post war hitman in a black suit and elegant hat? With armor 4 those two can give you over 200 in all resistances, pre chems!
Near the start, a short distance from Concord theres a little camp site and a set of armor always seems to spawn, think its the Cage armor which it pretty good when starting out, Think its 25 dam res and 20 energy res.
