Is the Gauss considered a Heavy Weapon?

If I remember correctly, in previous Fallout games the Gauss Rifle was considered to be a Heavy Weapon (or maybe my memory is just fuzzy). I was wondering if it's considered in that category this time around.

In F2 the Gauss rifle is considered a small gun and in F3 & NV it is considered an energy weapon

No, it uses the Rifleman perk for damage.

Thanks for the information. I figured it wasn't a heavy weapon, but I guess my memory was just deceiving me.

rules of thump: if the weapons requires only one hand to fire, its a gun. If it requires two hands and your character holds it around their eyes when aiming, its a rifle. If you hold it next to your side, its a heavy weapon.

rules of thump: hit people with a blunt object

I prefer a sharp object

But then it's more like rules of stab or rules of slash.
