Tips for finding companions when you forgot where you told them to go...
Does anyone have any? I had to dismiss Piper for reasons related to a quest and for the love of god, I cannot remember where the hell I told her to go and I've been checking everywhere I can think of. Anyone have any tips or tricks that can be used to find lost companions in these types of situations?

Without console commands?

Preferably. The more console commands you use over time, the more it gunks up your save file and before you know it, you're starting over. Learned that the hard way with Skyrim. Now if there's no other option, I'll use them, but I'd rather not

I used moveto to find Piper and she was on a balcony with no way off.

If you did check your settlements and is not there, search in the original place you found them.

I lost Cait once and she was at Combat Zone, swearing and drinking, I love that girl.

I guess the suggestion would be to make a settlement for ONLY your companions and you always send them there when you dismiss them. The whole new send your companion to any settlement seems ineffective since there are so many of them and you can forget so easily which one they were sent to.

The thing is I actually have one of those, I just clicked to make the menu come up, just as the menu came up which made me click the wrong one and I'm not sure which I clicked. I may end up having to use the console commands, as mush as I'd rather not.

What's the command line to go to Piper, or bring her to me? Either/or, doesn't matter to me. That was one console command in Skyrim I alwas had trouble getting right for some reason

"help piper 4" and it should give her ID and then type "prid ########" # = her ID and after that you just type "moveto player"

So to make sure I have it right, first command is "Help Piper 4" then "Prid [result from first command]" then finally "moveto player" correct?

They actually walk to the settlements and it takes a few days to get there. So don't look for em right away is all I can say/

Yes, the first commad shows you the ID for everything that has the word piper in it's name. The second command selects the ID you put in and the third one moves that object to the player.
