Is there a 50 cal assault rifle or smg or pistol?

In fairness though, even if they did incorporate a full auto .50 weapon in the game, it would be ruined by balance. Look at the minigun for example. When I first saw the E3 presentation, I thought the minigun would be my "go to" weapon. As it stands, it does so little damage due to it's sheer lack of accuracy that it's pretty much non viable in most scenarios, even when fully upgraded for accuracy. As such, I find myself never using it because it simply costs way too much in ammunition. I can kill an alpha male deathclaw with about 5 blasts from my fully upgraded combat shotgun. That's about 15 caps in ammo? To kill one with the minigun, you're looking at half a clip, or more. That's hundreds of caps. It's just not a viable weapon to my mind.

I think the lack of weapons for 10mm and 5.56 is far more pressing an issue.

I got a .50 cal suppressed sniper rifle - kills everything, except Behemoths dead in one shot... And is especially satisfying when doing headshots.

There probably will be mods to address this eventually. One thing you have to remember is that both of these games were made by two different developers.

The thing about ammo in the Fallout universe is that they sort of dumbed that down a bit. Real world there is more than just .50 BMG which would never work in semi auto smallish gun and certainly not in a full auto hand held weapon. But there is more than just .50 bmg. Just like there is more than one .45 (.45 acp, .45 gap, .45 colt etc etc.) or 9mm (9 x17 9x18 9x19 9x21, 9x25 and all the named old school ones beyond 9 parabellum/nato/luger...same thing). Current .50's out there are of course .50 bmg but also, .50 beowolf and .50 action express. The last 2 are no where near as powerful as .50 bmg. And we did get a few boom sticks that used some sort of other .50 back once upon a time.

And that is all you get, 50 cal needs more weapons or the sniper needs more pow.

If you want wicked powah - get a 6-crank laser 'musket' modded out as a rifle. A sneak attack critical could do 600 damage easy.

I've got an instigating laser musket, almost one hit the Swann on survival. Second shot got it though.

It does well over 1000 dmg first strike.

The gun model itself is hilarious because its got 5 bullets meancingly floting over the sight some how.

That's because the .50 cal is .50 BMG. You're not going to put that into an AR or SMG. The fact that you can make a .50 BMG bolt-action *pistol* is ridiculous. Possible - for a range queen gun - but still ridiculous.

the .50 cal in *Fallout games* has had two versions
the .50 BMG for rifles, which you are coreect, massive round, note though a special single shot pistol in real life CAN fire it, but it'sgot massive recoil absorbers

and the
12.7mm round, which seems ot be the .50 Action Express PISTOL round
it's a real life .50 cal pistol round that can and has literally blown heads off
the 12.7mm SIG-SAUER, and 12.7mm SMG are both long time weapons in Fallout lore and SHOULD be in the damn game!
along with true .50 BMG cal sniper rifles, who's damage owuld be massively more than what it currently is, see the Antimaterial rifle in New Vegas

very annoyed os many iconic Fallout weapons aren't in the bloody game now, or have been BUTCHERED in their looks, see the 10mm pistol for example
hate all the official weapon mods changing the weapons' looks so much and the idiot weight changes!

my fave rifle in all the Fallout games though is the "Medicine Stick":
.45-70, custom ammo, damn near as good as the AMR and actually better with right perks, amoo and sneak shots with hollow points causing loco damage,
or wadcutters if used in firefights,
and faster/easier to use than the AMR ;)
AMR ability to use explosive, armour piercing and incendiary rounds is what made it so good

fave pistols are a "A Light in Shining Darkness", "Maria", and "That Gun", each has i't sunique advantages.
mysteriosu magnum has honourable mention purely for it's theme tune, lol

Bozar anyone? That's an iconic weapon purely for the mishap of how it worked.

I do agree though, an LMG or something that can be customized to fire .50 cal rounds. Absurdity is the name of Fallout now.
