How to keep Drinking Buddy?
I decided to keep him in my settlement. But the quest is still there. Can't I complete it without selling him?

Then you can't complete the quest, no.

Think its yet another bugged quest, I think it should end either or but doesn't.

I ended up sniping the guy that gave the quest. The mission failed and I can now keep Drinking Buddy. Pays off to be a ninja!

How is it bugged? The quest was to bring him to the bar not your settlement, if you wanna finish it you can tell him you sold him and he will go to the bar

You could've simply send him to a settlement and kept it at that, you didn't have to fail nor complete the quest in order to keep him.

hm maybe finish the quest and get him per console command setownership or what was it ...

I actually just stubbled across him clearing hte building, and got the quest.

Didn't talk to anyone far as I remember now its in my quest log still there like op, with optional send him to the bar or optional keep him.

So ya I think its bugged, I kept him.

Well, then the quest marker would remain over his head.

Only if you kept the quest as active. You can un-select a quest by clicking on it, you know?

It doesn't seem to be any way to complete the quest and keep Buddy... But atleast I got 400 caps and some beer for him :p

Well, it would be nice if you could give the quest closure by going to the giver of the quest and telling him you decided to keep him instead. Its pretty much what you would do in every other rpg.
Seems like a bugged quest... you are given the option to send him off to the hotel, or to keep him by sending him to your own settlement. Either option should end the quest given that keeping him is immediately listed as an option, and given that if you do keep him you don't actually fail the question.

And yet, I, too, chose to keep him, only to permanently have that quest remain open and still claiming I can send him to the hotel (despite no dialogue option to do so).

So, keeping him seems bugged.
