Scrounger Perk is Worth It
Just something I thought I should share for anyone who's relatively new and wants info on the Scrounger perk.
First of all, the perk tree is lying to you. Scrounger doesn't just increase ammo found in containers, it increases ammo found in EVERYTHING. That means people you kill, too.
It won't just be improving ammo drops, either - It'll actually add ammo on top of the usual drop, generally in the form of 5.56 or .50 rounds, each of which are both rare and sell for a good price. That means you'll be making a ton of caps from the spare ammo you'll be selling, even with just rank one of Scrounger.
Secondly, Fusion Cores are counted as a type of ammo. I'm sure you can figure the rest of that out for yourself.
Happy scrounging.

Everything is a container when it's dead.

Yeah, but a lot of people don't understand how the engine works. When you see the word "Container" and haven't been on the GECK or CK, you'd probably be thinking of actual boxes.

Ammo is only an issue for the first 10 like so levels.

Money is no issue at all. I'm sitting on 50k and have spend around 1-2k only on things I didn't really need.

In such games, especially in Bethesda ones, taking bonus ammo/drops/xp options is not really good. You are exchanging temporary ease of life in early game for long term power.

Sure, it might make the first levels easier, but by the time you are level 50, have near infinite ammo and money, wouldn't you rather have a perk that gives you power?

It gives me literal power in terms of free fusion cores, which are always in demand even with the nuke phycisist perk
Zyrconia Nov 22, 2015 @ 8:34am
Nah, fusion cores are again technically limitless. I probably have enough for hours of nonstop power armor play, and when you play, you get more.

yea scrounger its really useful

In my understanding, there is no level cap. So in theory you should be able to unlock everything. Also the early game is by far the hardest stage of the game, even if you play on survival you should focus on making your early game easier in order to progress.

When you make use of a lot of one ammo type or like to do a little solo RP and only use certain types of guns, it's especially useful. Selling a ton of expensive but relatively useless ammo types to purchase the one you need is especially handy in that regard. I always end up finding more .50 than anything else, and it's one of the ammo types I almost never use thanks to my approach to combat, and because of that I can always afford more of the ammo I need whereas the characters I used before I started picking scrounger almost always ran out and had to carry half a dozen guns just to stay in the fight.

In terms of the amount of ammo you get through, its not likely to be particularly useful unless you are using full autos almost all the time.
But the shear number of .50 rounds you pick up, and long before you can even dream of getting a weapon that fires them basically makes them a second currency.

the game is full of ammo, why waste a perk on getting more

There is no level cap.

From a differing viewpoint, you could reason to think of all the potential ammo (and money) you aren't getting simply for not taking one or two ranks early in the game.

Perhaps depends a bit on your playstyle, what weapons you use and if you are spec'd up into some Charisma to make lots of caps, how often you seek out containers and go looting, but it really is a bit ridiculous even with just two ranks.
You'll find .50 rounds everywhere, filing cabinets and suitcases and all that, and stuff like frag grenades and mines in duffle bags at times. Not to mention the occasional lucky Fusion Core clusters. Pretty legit for just two perk points, if you ask me.

As a melee focused character who never uses his power armour and already has plenty of caps because there is rarely anything decent in shops and even when there is I can just sell a bunch of ammo I've collected without this perk as well as random stuff like drugs to completely empty out a trader's caps, this perk is pretty much a waste of a point for me.

By the time you are 50, you are oneshotting everything anyway.

Scrounger for life!
