I do indeed comrade, individual rooms undermine the solidarity of the community :)

And here I am building a big base in Starlight Drive In and giving each settler their own house with own bed. I don't want my settlements to look like a concentration camp :)

Once you've got 15 people or more in a settlement I think giving them all their own houses is a little tricky ... I set up my bigger settlements like military installations, with walls and a guarded entrance:

A setup like this makes it easier to defend against the random attacks that get triggered now and then.
Happiness will drop when you build beds like this...

Yep, not enough literal space or "size" bar space to make individual rooms or homes for people. And that would take forever as well. Ik you can mod that size thing out but it forces me to be creative and i like that. Plus i cant imagine people having thier own rooms in post nuclear war times, gotta stick together incase anyone starts getting a little powerhungry or gets murdered.

Pretty much forced to cram 4-12 beds, matresses or framed beds/cots in every room.

I follow a few basic rules though

Try to space it out, imagining it like real life and leaving some space on the sides so they arent shoulder to shoulder sleeping together.

Never pile beds one ontop of another so people dont have to smell feet as they sleep

Never set beds facing away from doorways or close to them incase of sneak attacks, if they are at doorways they face them.

Not really important details or stuff you MUST do or impacts the game in anyway, but i find it gives a sense of beauty to crammed homes.

Edit: Have to excuse the lack of decorations, im focusing on building homes first then decor after i gather the materials and outfit everyone with the basics. This is a three story apartment in the tiny hangmans alley settlement out back.

First floor all the way in the back

Second floor again in the back but with a wall partition this time

Top floor-i have roofing problems so i cant close it off...

That's an interesting point. I've managed to get by with other happiness-boosting things though, like decorations and shops. My biggest settlement sits at 85 happiness pretty comfortably.

Is it just the bed quality that makes the difference? Would rows of real beds instead of sleeping bags change that?

My settlement, my rules. I didn't invite them over so they could be a band of merry men, i need laborers. Crops aren't going to harvest themselves, you know.
Next thing you're going to tell me that sentries are placed to keep enemies out. Ha-ha, if only.
Rogue Nov 22, 2015 @ 3:33am
I don't think bed type affects happiness at all, not cramming them either as long as they can all be reached by your settlers (and not even sure that part matters). Pretty sure the only thing that matters is the amount.
