Is using console command for unlimited carry weight really that bad?
Ok, I understand that it's technically cheating, but is it really that bad? For me, it's just a time saver because between me and my companion, I can usually pick up all the junk from a particular location. Then I bring it back to home base and store it all there. So all I'm doing by using this console command is saving time by not transferring all my junk to my companion.

Also, am I missing out on anything by using console commands? I seem to recall that there was a Bethesda game in the past where you miss out on something (achievement, storyline?... I forget) if you used console commands.

Again it's a single player game so it doesn't matter if somebody else plays the game differently.
If somebody demanded that the weight limit be removed from the game, then it would matter. If they just want to play the game the way the want by using mods or cheats, it doesn't hurt you.

"Cheating in video games involves a video game player using non-standard methods for creating an advantage or disadvantage beyond normal gameplay"
What you read was"Cheating in video games involves an advantage or disadvantage"

What it actually says is " non-standard - beyond normal gameplay".
Bethesda not only designs there game wtih editing in mind but makes both the dev console easy to use and puts out A FULL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PACKAGE MOD TOOL!

Editing these games is in no way "non-standard methods" or "beyond normal gameplay".

...and that is only if we are all on board with an increadible general industry covering description from wikipedia.
welllll, thats not really true, the dev command consoles primary function is in the name, its for devs to fix bugs and so on, secondly there has always been a modding resource for bethesdas games (why would they remove it now?) thirdly, your kind of just pissing away years of work by hundreds of people because you cant be bothered to ferry crap or manage your items efficiently, might annoy you, but there is a reason you cant carry a million random junk items, and its not even to be realistic, its to create a sense of balance, its a choice between that really heavy minigun, or enough steaks and junk items to upgrade your settlement, also, power armour with flames, BOS, torso upgrades and leg upgrades increase strength and carry weight, alongside the extra peices of armour which you equip over your vault suit.
THE ♥♥♥♥ DOES THIS BULL COME FROM?!?!
This is the kind of stupid thing someone who doesnt use it would say. There are message for us left in it after using/attempting certn commands. Stuff that would not be there had it simply been left in the game. It is one of the most user friendly consoles in any game ever. Stop arguing this. Bs doesnt get better with age.

Thats besides the fact that you jsut glossed over 90% of what I said.

Bethesda made a game. A big beautiful game. Just because they built it all one way doesnt mean your 'cheating' to change it. This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane.

Maybe you are unfamilier with what sandbox gaming is.
Sandbox games are about allowing the player to choose how they go about or deal with content.
Very specifically translating to 'NO RULES'. There are no rules in Fallout. Only a framework. A... foundation so to speak.
AKA: Open world, freedom, freeform, player choice, creative etc.

BTW cheating in games can be super fun-exploding chickens mod in skyrim anyone? It was a mod with a console command but it was fun as heck

Where are you getting that bs?
This game is entirely built with tweeks, editing and modding in mind.

If you use the console, mod, or alter the game from out of the box your cheating. I mean yeah they stuck the tools in there like the console but its cheating to just randomly give yourself stuff. How isnt it? So when they play test and balance the game they open the console and give themselves 20 million ammo and stim packs and balance the game world around that? Its cheating. Its pretty silly to think its not.
Its single player knock yourself out but call it like it is

im not saying its bad or the wrong way to play the game, im just trying to explain the logic behind it, they can play it however they want, just saying that it seems a trivial thing to change, especially as the whole settlement building, weapon and armour modding are a big part of the game (maybe not the settlements for you guys, but it was a big focal point for me) i was fast traveling to my settlement every 2-3 quests just to drop off, organise and sell all my useless weapons and armour, either way i digress, i was here to address another issue.

it hasnt crossed your mind that those commands and error messages are universal for bethesdas coding now? these guys have been at this since 86, sure their games are usually buggy as hell, frustrating and downright broken at times, but they have consistently entertained me throughout my childhood right up until now, for all their faults, bethesda does do good with some things such as the modding, but again, it has been refined and adapted so that when they release their dedicated modding software (the elder scrolls construction kit and the garden of eden creation kit) to the public, people that have no idea what they are doing can somewhat fumble their way through the commands and other technical mumbo-jumbo without having to spend 3 hours learning what syntax function x=3.6 means

eventually the creation kit will come about and all sense of balance and fairness... or morality, will go out the window.

just do what makes the game fun for you.
gj tryng to get him to corrupt his save, going over level 65535 instantly crashes your game.

"Fallout 4 doesn't have an actual level cap, but the hard limit is 65,535[2]. Trying to level past this point by any means results in the executable crashing.

Reaching level 65,535 requires 161,062,092,801 experience points."

Why do I even bother. Yet again Iv learned that stupid cant be fixed.

Coming from JRPGs, weight limit has always been weird to me. If Obsidian decided to drop weight limit for Pillars of Eternity, then why not? It really ruins my fun when I play western RPGs, especially when by the end of the game you are practically a demi-god. The worst time I had was with Kingdoms of Amular (AKA baby's first Skyrim). the game was almost unplayable for me, and the dev's answer was a measly extra 5 weight points per super-expensive upgrade. Do most pen and paper RPGs even impose weight limits for items? I know some get pretty arbitrary with mechanics, but if few imposed weight limits then in my mind P&PRPGs are the template to be followed.

Like someone said above "you do you"

x-01 armor, painted for max carry weight with leg mod assigned that gives additional carry weight. I can carry 572 pounds alone. With armor weight, spray and pray and partystarter equipped I have 122 pounds total so I can loot 460. So why would it be necessary to go beyond that. Plus you can choose where you can fast travel while over encumbered.
lpnlizard27 Jan 23, 2016 @ 12:00pm
I just mod all my companions to carry 5000, thats more than enough to finish a block of missions, and its like having a mobile treasure chest with you most of the time.
Necroshine Jan 23, 2016 @ 12:04pm
I don't care what anyone says, I use it. My character has over 10000lbs of stuff on him right now. I can't be bothered with overencumbered. It is boring and with loading screens as absolutely terrible as they are, I refuse to sit through one every single time I can't carry anymore.

It is unrealistic as is. Carrying 16 rifles 6 bowling balls 12 typewriters and an assortment of desk fans while fighting a super mutant behemoth? Totally legit. Just as legit as my character carrying 10,000lbs.

If they fixed the game where it was 100% seemless and there was never any loading screens in the entire game, I would consider it.... but probably still use unlimited lol. I just simply can't be bothered and it's the only "cheat" I use, and will use it for every single Bethseda game that ever comes out.
Relic62 Jan 23, 2016 @ 12:38pm
Considering you can carry up to 10 weapons if you wanted, the game is unrealistic anyhow, thats all I will say on weight thing, what really hisses me off is you go through a door to any building its load time you wanna fast travel its load time, I reckon half your game is spent loading and not playin lol not to mention dumping stuff in your workbench every time you do a mission further cutting into shoot and loot time, also getting rid of bobbleheads and flyers, notes tapes etc that clutter up your inventory as well. But I still like the game, go figure lol.

1. Its not cheating. You can't cheat in a single player game. Cheating only applies in *competition*.

2. Who cares if its bad or not? You want to do it, its your game. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks about it.

Add to that the fact that Bethesda games are basically open source gaming. Nobody releases a full mod tool for a game they dont want broken.
