Ruined by cheat codes

All that hard work by Bethesda in creating a game and it's ruined by cheat codes. Who in their right mind would allow for the implementation of the exact same cheat codes as in Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3. One would think the managing director would have required the cheat codes to be changed. Further, gaming websites have posted the cheats right on their front pages, so it's hard to miss.

The best example comparison i can make is..

Imagine spending more than a few years creating a statue. A masterpiece of creation using tons and tons of materials you aquired from as far as the eye can see. The statue is 500 feet tall. To get to the top, a massive ladder had to be built including aquiring the resources to do so. Many days through the rain, heat, or snow you kept building. After the statue was built the ladder was taken apart to make benches for those who wished to admire the grand creation.

Located at the top is a locked door. The locking mechanism is highly advanced, intricate in detail and design. Behind that door awaits treasures, maps, and ancient knowledge of construction. The only key is kept by you in a safe place. Or so you thought. A helper whom you hired for the locks' creation, made a few thousand extra keys and gave them out to everyone. Soon the statue is vandalized, damaged beyond repair, the treasures broken and burned. You sit in the only thing that's left, a bench. Pondering the remains of something you thought was great for everyone. Next time maybe you'll make sure whoever builds the lock, doesn't give away the key..

Do you think the codes/console commands should be changed in the next Bethesda game(s)? What are your thoughts?

You could just, you know, *not* push the tilde key.

Just like any old game with cheat codes, or things like Game Genie, Game Shark, Action Replay, etc. you are never forced to use them.

You're mistaken. It's a single player game. If people are playing it and happy playing it, then Bethesda doesn't care how you go through it. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that I can customize my game to play it the way I want to play it, I probably would not be nearly as big a fan of Bethsda games as I am now. I probably would have quit with Oblivion.

Some people are purist and want to only play the game the way it was designed to be played. And that's fine. Some people like to just make their character totally OP and cheat right through the game. I like to remove some of the more mundane aspects of the game by allowing me to carry more stuff so I'm not always making more trips, or skilling up in more than one type of weapon at a time so I don't have t stick to just one playstyle for the next 100+ hours. Since there's no competition, you can't tell people there's a "right" way to play.

I've defeated many a troll in rpg's past and present. Developers of the past rarely if at all, provided console commands. If they did, i doubt they were all the same. Gaming has gone down the drain. In this day and age of entitlement, the only hope left is..well..i don't know..doesn't look good.

So far console has gotten me out of a bugged quest and let me get unstuck from horrible collision a couple of times. I fail to see how having console is a bad thing, all you need to do is not cheat and PROBLEM SOLVED!

On another topic, why does this ruin a single player game all about freedom. Why do you care how anyone else plays. Enjoy yer damned game.

It's called debugging. The system is there to fix possible bugs the user may incounter which prevents a lot of fustration over glitches. No one is forcing you to use it.

If you aren't a troll. you come across as one. it's a singleplayer game. experiences can only be ruined by cheats through your own choices,in which it would be your own fault. same goes for everyone else. Don't use them. if you can't understand that. i'm sticking with you being a troll.

Why didn't ZeniMax/Bethesda hire more testers then? Why is it always up to the user end and modders to fix a problem in which the developer had more than enough time, money, and resources to get it done. Smh

It's funny how much this bothers you, there have been cheat codes in games for ye--- oh wait, these are console commands not cheats.
