Vigil's Laboratory // Rocky Cave (Spoiler?)

I found Vigil's Laboratory as I was searching around the deep south (off the map) due to boredom, and I notice that if I take anything it's stealing, but I dont see Vigil around anywhere, and his protection turrets dont fire on me.

By reading the lore Im guessing he turned super mutant or something.

But my question is this: If I steal his things, will this ruin the story for me later on? (as im guessing he will be hostile if I see him later on?)

Or can I literally empty his cave and if/when i meet him later, it'll all be fine?

For those wondering, I still havent even done the visit diamond city quest yet. Im kind of an exploring // side questing ♥♥♥♥♥.

I think you should be good.

He's integral to the main quest, so you can expect them to have tested for this very obvious user case.

Reload to an earlier save and don't enter the cave with the targeting mod on your PA Helmet.
