Random Static Noises. Bug?
I spent a while looking up possible fixes to this and scoured my inventory for possible causes but it just. Won't. Stop. I have exited the game completely and even rebooted.

For a while now whenever I play on my main character there's this static noise in the background. The only time it is not present is when I'm in one of the menus' (Start menu and pipboy) or when I'm accessing a terminal or lock. All other times the buzzing/static/hellishly annoying noise is there.

While typing this up I've found that it will briefly stop when I mess around in a settlement for a while but as soon as I walk a few steps away there's some kind of ppowering-up noise and the static returns.

No weapon or armor piece I have is the cause. No quest related things either. Tried cycling out companions too.

The bug fixes I saw said it was a result of Holotape background noise continuing past the end of the tape but I tried the fix there and it did not work.

In the name of all that is holy, HELP ME!

IF ANY of you have ever used a Gaus rifle this is likely your problem.

If you charged the Gaus rifle but switched weapns before firing the charging noise it makes persists.

You can fix it by pulling the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing out again and the noise FINALLY vanishes.

I hope this is the case with those of you still having the issue.

OMG YOU ARE A GENIUS i was running around for 3 days like this >.<

Well, does not work for me for 2 reasons - I did not find any Gauss rifle and for some reason McCready seems to be the source of that static noise =\

Check his inventory. Worst case send him someplace you won't go often.

I also had this issue with the centry turrets sound...
Only solution was :
- fast saving
- dying
- resurrecting and voilà, annoying sound was gone :)

If this can help...

Bye guys

Ive noticed the static sound as well, like a blank radio station. Oddly enough ive been able to get this to go away by opening my pip boy and selecting the Radio tab then moving it back to the inventory tab (any other tab really)

OK so having scoured this thread I am going to try the following (tell me if i missed anything):

  • IS it a sound card / HW issue ? - NO. Stops on minimize or close. Opening music and sound is fine. Can use in game volume to turn it off.
  • Sound is localized to a place? NO. Sound occurs as though using a radio station or near a ham radio at all times. Gets louder or softer without leading me to a source as I walk around.
  • Radio station outof range? NO. Turned them off and the buzzing persists.
  • Pull out energy weapons load to max and fire - pending
  • Go to Cabot's house and see if its related to a cut scene - pending
    [\list]

    Thanks Ya'll

Hey,

Try this: save the game before letting your character die. When it respawns, sound's gone!

Turns out it was my gamma gun, not my gauss rifle

In the event that it is one of your allies who is the cause of the noise it is because of the weapon they were holding find out the noise have them with that weapon equiped and pull out your weapon they will pull out theirs and it should stop the noise.

Just start killing everything, the sound disappears in all the b'dow b'dow b'dow (blame it on the stress of hearing phantom noise).

I was hearing the same thing and wondering what was going on. Holstering Lorenzo's Artifact Gun made it stop. Apparently it makes that noise all the time just 'cuz. The Artifact gun now lives in my personal safe.

I just started having this problem last night. It started some time during the mission to retrieve the synth who thinks he's a pirate called Gabriel on the big pile of wrecked ships in the harbour. I've tried equipping, shooting and reloading all the guns in my inventory. I've tried picking up one I used a couple of times during a fight there and then dropped (shooting & reloading it). I've tried stealing all the guns Nick V was carrying and throwing them away.

I've tried leaving & entering my power armour. I've tried using a crafting bench. I've tried stepping out of my armour and shooting a Fat Man at my own feet to die and then reload. I tried loading a save game from about 20 levels ago - that save is fine.

It's definitely an effect sound of some sort - if you mute the 'Effects' channel in audio settings, that gets rid of it. As well as all the gun sounds. Buggered if I know what is causing it but that's the end of Fallout 4 for me. I can't stand it.

THANK YOU SO FRICKING MUCH
I almost lost all hope of fixing this since I lost track of where it started in the first place, just equipping the gauss rifle was enough for me... thanks again dude :'D

ps: playing it on a ps4 :P

I even have it in the main menu

Figured it out. When you finish the Emogene quest and walk out of the Cabot House, whilst Jack Cabot is using the radio, if you don't stop and watch the whole scene and pick up the "Secret of the Cabot House" quest, you'll wander around forever with that damn radio static going off every 5 seconds.
