It's a perfectly decent deathclaw sniper rifle. Or similar long range targets. I have never bothered with in once combat starts though. Cranking takes too long.
Every crank of the gun stacks the damage stat for the single shot you take. So one crank is always "terrible laser rifle". But the more cranks you put in, the more ridiculous your sneak or criticals are.
Even before I put any points into rifleman, my 4 crank Laser Musket would let me one hit kill power armor wearing raiders if I used a VATS crit, while my normal laser rifle would just hurt them a lot on a vats crit.
If you are fighting multiple enemies or needing to take a lot of shots, use something else if you don't have the luxury of cranking it for every shot. But definitly keep one handy because (especially in the early game), it is your most ammo efficient "big gun".
For you, stick with .50 cal rifles and combat shotguns :))
Nope - Companions only have unlimited ammo with their original weapon, not others. If you mod their weapon it ceases to have unlimited ammo.
sneak attack is X5.3 isn't it?
170*5.3=901
Basic sneak attack at range is x2.
