Fallout 4 sound muted after connecting headphones?
Whenever I decide to plug headphones in mid-game, the audio becomes completely muted for the game. Anyone else having the same issue?

Alright, well I haven't had this problem before with the last two computers I had, so I figured I'd make a post about it, thinking it was just the game.

if it's only game audio, then it might be the game or DX, but you should check to see which audio devices are being used by your pc, some headphones just transport the audio to your headphones as if it was the same device as your built-in speakers, others count as a seperate device and might not work if they are not toggled to be the primary device

my logitech G930 headphones show up in the device manager and still have the same problem as the OP (worse even) can you elaborate on anyything we should be doing to get them working as good as they can?

on the end of your windows taskbar, next to the icon for battery(if laptop) and internet, you should have an audio icon, if you right-click on it you should have an option called "playback devices" this will open a window literally just called "sound" if your headset is a seperate playback device in there you might have to right click on it and "set as default device" for the audio to come through correctly, the same applies to microphones(recording devices) if you have trouble with that,

note however that not all headsets are listed as a seperate device in the playback/recording tabs, if they aren't there then they are not a seperate device and just transport audio as if your headset is just an extension of the speakers

thx for the reply! i checked and the headphones are the default device. i'll just keep making sure they are powered up before running the game.
cheers!

It happens in game where they dont give a thought to people. Alot games work just fine under the same os and direct x version. So blame bethesda not windows or direct x.

If you have anything USB, ensure it's plugged in and tested as working before you launch any game; period. We shouldn't have to keep saying these things.

Like ensuring your Windows Playback/Recording is set to your Headset prior to a game launch. Don't go hotplugged devices during gameplay.
