Yes there are - And there are dialects too.
In the Queen's English "Ma'am" is pronounced "Mum". It's more like "Mahm". A long soft A rather than a hard A.
I'm pretty sure he meant there is no GENERAL British accent, this thread stinks of yanks.
Well... there is... kind of. It is what people generally refer to as the Posh. broadcaster/royal English - Of course hardly anyone speaks that anymore, in favour of... what I personally consider gutter English.
