Appearance - Fashion or Practicality?
Soooo... my character looks so silly. I have a weird looking helmet that boosts armor and 2 SPECIAL and then I have glasses on that make it look worse. Then I have random layers of Legendary equipment on along with the Vault 111 suit.

I mean, coming after Skyrim, I was hoping to look more badass. I'm only level 20 and I haven't really gotten too far into the game, but... I haven't seen anything special in videos or pictures.

I know this is a wasteland, but... there is truly no synergy going on with my gear.

They probably reasoned "since you're going to be in power armour 95% of the time, gear looks dont matter".

Oh... Power armor doesn't really impress me that much. :/ I have only used it once aside from the beginning of the game.

Well you can combine the gear you want to make it look badass. Are you wearing those fashionable glasses which look like they were a left over from Elton John? No wonder your character looks bad (or fabulous, depends I guess). The stats on armor aren't really that important in Fallout. You can also kick ass naked even on higher difficulties. Just wear the armor which you think looks best.

wait for the modders..hotpants with 100 armor, energy and radiation resistance :P

Nah, the glasses are fine. They're just black. I like glasses actually. It just doesn't look right with this helmet thing I got going on.

I wear the Minutemen outfit because it looks cool.
And everyone knows that cool=good stats.

With my helmet i am not really happy myself. Its that simple protection helmet, the blue one..kind of fits to the vaultsuit..but thats it. the police glasses look cool though. I looted at helmet from a died diamond city guard..but..i dont really like to wear it, because it looks silly in dialoges.

I can understand the dissapointment of looking kind of lame, but I have to admit I'm sort of digging the ragtag/junkyard look most characters seem to get when just going for pure stats.
Still, given the potential for modding, maybe someone can add in a 'vanity mode' or something, allowing you to wear items for stats but choose a second set for appearence?

when mods allow armor over the plethora of "outfits" that cant currently be worn with armor, this will be a moot issue.

I love the layered armor system; and the modifications.... but I find it extremely odd that there aren't more choices for "under" clothes. Most of the outfits are just pure stats anyhow, so I don't really understand the reasoning behind disallowing them to be equipped with the layered armor...

Like, a suit. Id love to wear leather armor over a dirty suit.

But, to the point of the OP: Fashion. I switch a lot between third and first person, and I like to RP my playthrough's real cinematic-like with a fair bit of Walking and enjoying the set pieces. So, I keep the glasses on usually for the per/cha; but rarely a helmet.

I play survival; RP-ing a early retirement military scientist with little combat experience; hence why I had priority to get into the vault. Mostly use my power armor; but I usually wear a mechanic outfit and goggles underneath; and have a dirty suit/hat/glasses for my CHA gear when I go shopping =P I think the mechanic outfit along with the welding goggles is very "I do Power Armor" look. =P
