My other settlements all have scav stations and are connected by supply lines. So I assigned a supply line to one of the settlers and instantly I had over 1000 steel.
Oh - sorry then for the misinformation. I couldn't assign people to anything early on - maybe it was because I was still technically in the "tutorial" - or I just flat out wasn't doing it right.
I've been having a lot of trouble with settlements - the whole interface feels really clunky to me.
adhesive is kinda the most needed item in the game xD
Lol its not worthless if you got alot of settlers that don't have a job. The most worthless job for the settler are being assign to defense. Turrets are much better for defense.
Also scavenge station also gives some rare junk like ballistic fiber.
