Its a station you can assign a settler to, and I'm pretty sure it just causes the settlement to acquire random junk to its workshop inventory.
Willem 19. nov. 2015 kl. 8:09
Put a settler to work on it and it will give you random resources they will be dropped in youre workbench. So less scavaging and more building for you ;)
Overlard 19. nov. 2015 kl. 8:09
Supposedly if you assign someone to it, they will scavenge random junk and put it in that settlement's stash for you over time. It's honestly just faster to do it yourself.
Mandrake42 19. nov. 2015 kl. 8:09
I would like to know too. I THINK it lets settlers who have no assigned jobs scavenge resources for the settlement so you can build stuff

Edit: Oops. everyone beat me too it

You can assign settlers to it after you have the local leader perk, I assume it starts generating scrap, or items that can be scrapped... I'm not 100% sure though. I've assigned one person but I can't tell if I'm getting anything out of it or not, especially if it deposits directly to the workshop.

Edit: hit 'post' waaaay too late.

Try 4-6 per settlement ;)

It generates random resources inculding a chance of rare stuff. Ideally you want as many scavenging stations as possible.

You don't need local leader for that! Local leader is for supply lines and shops.

Oh! Will do that tonight when I get home - thanks Willem!

I found a new settlement with 4 settlers but nothing else. I wanted to make them beds but there was no steel, not even junk to scrap.
My other settlements all have scav stations and are connected by supply lines. So I assigned a supply line to one of the settlers and instantly I had over 1000 steel.

Oh - sorry then for the misinformation. I couldn't assign people to anything early on - maybe it was because I was still technically in the "tutorial" - or I just flat out wasn't doing it right.

I've been having a lot of trouble with settlements - the whole interface feels really clunky to me.

i havent tried it yet but in my opinion it seems kinda worthless, all you need to do is put all your settlers to make mutfruit, tato's and corn which you can make alot of adhesive from, then you just fast travel between your settlements because the crops grow instantly when fast traveling :)
adhesive is kinda the most needed item in the game xD
RavenX 19. nov. 2015 kl. 8:19
Yeap, everyone said what it does. Also, I found a use for hard hats. I sort them by color and put them on settlers according to their job so I know what that settler is doing at a glance. Wish we could name them.

Lol its not worthless if you got alot of settlers that don't have a job. The most worthless job for the settler are being assign to defense. Turrets are much better for defense.

Also scavenge station also gives some rare junk like ballistic fiber.
