Why is T-51 so bad?

It's more rare than the T-60, yet it's about half as good. Does anybody else think that's stupid? That and the fact that it's also the ugliest power armor just makes it irrelevant, really.

raider power armor is ugly lol

Raider Power armor is just worthless, really, I didn't even take it into account. It's also arguably more aesthetically pleasing than the T-51. Yeah, it's scrappy and DIY, but I'd say T-51 is just plain awful with that helmet.

the lower end models are just for collectors i think.

Well, i still didn't find any parts of T-60 armor. All i have is T51B torso, right arm and left leg. Everything else is T45C.

And how long have you been playing for? T-60 starts being real common after BoS arrives. The easiest way to get a full T-60b suit is to join BoS (you can ditch them later if you don't like them), also you can loot full T-60b suits off dead BoS knights that start patrolling as soon as the blimp comes in.
I have a full suit of T-60b, and have just by accident bumped into a torso and a helmet from T-51. T-51 is supposed to be "the pinnacle of mechanized protection before the Great War", yet it's really not useful.
