*SPOILERS* Romance feels weird...
I just got to the point of romancing Cait and got the perk for it... It just felt awkward, and forced. Like my character just blurts out "I'm in love with you!" and everything is all hunky dory. No first date, nothin. Just straight into a relationship.

Plus there's no option to talk about your wife/husband who was murdered only weeks ago! Maybe your character needs some time, and is still in mourning. It's like the game expects you to completely forget about him/her.

Plus the fact that you're still searching for your son. Does the person you're romancing expect to become a step parent soon? Why aren't things like this mentioned by the characters, it would add so much flavor to the romance in the game, and drive home the fact that relationships are complicated.

I do love the game, but does anyone else feel like the romance is a little too generic?

Romance feels very underdeveloped. I understand that romance isn't the focus of Fallout, nor should it ever be, but it just felt tacked-on if anything. Maybe it would have been better to not have included romance at all.

To me it actually feels like a huge step up from the previous games, companions talk alot more and have really fleshed out backstories. And romance doesn't boil down to simply offering them a ring like in Skyrim...

That's why it's so dissapointing that the romance is a bit of a letdown here, cuz there's a lot of potential. I just hate how the games ignores the main character's backstory so much.

A person that went through those things would be majorly devastated. The game even expected me to feel sorry for Kellog, after he put a bullet in my wife's head! Are you serious?

Yeah, it is rather weird that your main character was widowed potentially just a few hours earlier, and they've immediately fallen in love with one or more new travel buddies.

I think this is one of those areas where the lead story writers needed to talk to the gameplay designers to actually work out something that makes sense.

It does seem like there's a major disconnect doesn't it? It feels too much like a Bioware romance. Where your main character was more of a blank slate. But here there is a ton of backstory. Don't give me all that and then expect me to just ignore it!

Romance and companion have never been the forte of Bethesda. Can't wait for some companion mod :x.

It's like

Danse: I really hate you

get inside your power armor 10 time in a row

Danse. I really like you.

Ahh, how fun was the completely dry, loveless affair that was marriage in Skyrim?

Oh Lydia, yes, let me buy you finery from Radiant Raiment, let me present you with baubles that I risked my life to find, whisper sweet nothings in your ear, take you to romantic locales, set you up in the swankest apartment in the realm, and our love will blossom into you sitting around dispassionately calling me love every so often...

Maccready fell in love with me after a good long while of gameplay, so I enjoyed that, now whenever we talk I get that 'oh he LOVES me feeling' that and you have sex everytime you both sleep on a bed near eachother.

;^)

Except you wasn't able to marry Lydia.

To be honest its hard to have long romance in post nuclear world where everyone strugles to survive. I except romance in that world to be prety fast because on next day your belowed one might be dead.

That literally just happened to me about 10 minutes ago. All I did was get in and out of power armor (Quests, repairing, replacing, etc.) for maybe an hour of in-game time and all of a sudden he's like; "Hey, here's my story, I like you. We'll bang, okay?"

That's all well and good. But how do I do the mental gymnastics to accept that my character was happily married a few days ago, and is now banging someone else?

Guess he really liked the way you used those power tools

You are quite wrong about that.

You needed to mod the game for that.

Well, Maccready was married, but his wife died, and I think he looks hawt so I flirted with him and NOBODY ELSE!

:> Thats even a dialouge option, he mentions 'what about your wife?' and I just said THATS IN THE PAST, YOUR ♥♥♥♥ IS MY PRESENT....not really...heuheuehue

But its what makes the game so great, your wife is dead so you can go get ♥♥♥♥♥♥, or go ♥♥♥♥ someone, everybody wins!!!
