Fallout 4 Crashes On New Game Character Creation
When I start a new game, it crashes as soon as I gain control to make my character.

Well, first of all, are your specs good enough to run the game? Without knowing that this could just be a random bug caused by programs you have running in the background, or even a virus.
I checked and they can run, I have beaten the game before. I tried the showlooksmenu in the beat save and that crashes the game. Trying a reinstall with the Documents/my games/Fallout 4 file deleted
Yes! It fixed it!

I've been getting the same issue since I originally started playing the game, only way I could avoid the crash is if I just accepted the default character without customizing them. Or at the very least, if I want to change something on the character, I need to do it as quickly as possible, as it seems the character creation causes a CTD a few moments after I start customizing my character.

I've had this issue since I got the game originally, updated my drivers to the latest, thinking that, that might be the cause, but alas, it still crashes for me. No errors, nothing, just a straight CTD

System Spec:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
GPU: MSI Nvidia GTX 980 4gb
Driver: Latest NVidia Driver
CPU: Intel I7 4790k Haswell Refresh @4.00ghz
Ram: 16gb DDR 3 Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz

I think it might just be the config file, the fallout4.ini one. Delet that one then validate your cache.

Go to your install folder, go into Data, and open the Textures folder and into Interface (......\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Interface) Cut or delete the folder named CharacterGen and start the game. It should no longer crash

@Jane sometimes its good for people to post secondary solutions even if yours has been solved so if someone has the same problem and your solution doesn't work they have others to try. just sayin
