You need to leave the cel for the cages to populate. fast travel to a different settlement or place with a bed or chair, wait, and then return

Actually the problem is timers do not work by simply waiting/sleeping. You need actual normal time to pass as well.

It takes a couple days to catch things in cages.

I've had good luck doing my method though.

I wonder if it's the fast travel time that is being counted rather than the sleeping/resting part?

Most likely since you are neither sleeping or waiting, and fast travel takes longer time wise than walking.

Sleeping does count, you just cant do all sleeping. You need 20% actual playing/afking and then can do 80% sleeping.

It works that way for all timers like settlement buffs/debuffs, production, etc.

Sleeping most definitely does work, as someone who builds HUGE 100 vs 100 cage matches... I've had to sleep for 2 or 3 weeks straight sometimes; which is brutal on Survival you'll starve and get multiple illnesses, waste a lot of food and water too. :-)

Note that when you have dozens or hundreds of cage traps, it's convenient to have a way to know if the trap is open because no one's caught, or because it needs to be reset... if you put a wire to the cage, and from that wire a NAND switch and then to a light, then the other side of the NAND to the same power source as the cage itself, you'll make a light that is OFF when the cage is ready or has something trapped inside, but ON when it needs your interaction to reset/re-bait it. Quite handy when you're hundreds of meters away and can pop up a scope.

LMAO

What kind of FPS do you get doing this? Just curious. Does your whole PC crash?

...still laughing

nope solid 60.0 constantly... the trick is to just do it where the settlement is the only thing in the cell, and don't populate it with settlers and shops and s**t... the more objects the cell has to deal with, the worse it gets... the best place is the main room in vault 88 after you've salvaged every square inch of the place, clean and pristine and kicked every settler out (unless you want settlers vs whatever since they're protected, great way to farm gunners for loot)

But yeah 88, spectacle island, NW red rocket, but that ones iffy limit it to 50x50 at first then see... same for the drive-in, nice open space with lots of vertical building to make deathmazes, but still will get attacked and people will wander in-range. Co-op is literally the most random... some days you can build huge, other days it's a CTD mess... I avoid it.

Nice, appreciate the share. It's amazing how much you can do in this game. Learn something new everyday.

There are many many ways to entertain yourself with FO4, this is true! The original reply wasn't about cage farming, just confirming that I've built thousands of cages and yes sleeping does in fact advance the time and fill the traps, is all. :-)

Yeah I figured OP got his answer already so what's a little derailment? :)

I would say you should give the CC VR Workshop a try, then I remembered it does not allow cages, lol.

I will have to give the cages a test, drop 3-4 and sleep like 3-4 days straight and see if it fills.

Yeah I dont understand why Bethesda did a balance thing that required actual play time to be included for some of the timers. Thought cages was with that timer as well. I know they can fill during sleep, was pretty sure that timer required actual play time like the other timers.
