I would recommend using anything but NMM. Not that it was bad for it's time. I used it for years with, FO3. (And will still use it if I ever fire up Fo3 again.) But it is deprecated now. Even nexusmods.com has NMM hidden now, and says don't use this anymore. That's....sort of a hint.

Yes, I know some people say they still use it successfully. That doesn't mean it should be the first choice for a new user doing a first install of a modern game. Yes I know learning a new mod manager is annoying when you just want to fire up the game and go. But in this case I think it's your best option. Mod organizer 2 is good, and Vortex is fine and works well but is misunderstood and gets some bad reviews.

(**And yes I know I am about to get 200 replies from people angrily telling me NMM works fine with fallout 4, and they hope i die in a fire while suffering from late stage cancer because I disrespected their fav mod manager. Preemptively - I didn't say NMM doesn't work. I used it for years. I'm saying there's better choices now that do a better job of detecting conflicts, checking for updates, making load order suggestions which are almost always right, etc.)

Which one?
I use SKK Fast Start new game
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29227
There's at least one other out there, that kinda borked my game.
The only complaint I have is that you might want to go back into the vault to get the rest of the 10mm ammo and pistols, the extra vault suits, cups, ash trays, etc.
I used another mod once, but it borked my game and had some sort of warning about disabling it after you started. This one was better.
And I used Vortex to install it because it's nearly foolproof and I'm nearly a fool.

Not even that mod works! I don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know whats going on, this game is such a mess to do anything with (Sorry Im just so frustrated I was so hyped to play a modded playthrough of my own choice and just nothing works, unlike previously in the past it has worked, I recently got a SSD so I don't know how this isnt working but on my HDD worked fine despite the annoying stutters)

Well, there it is. I use vortex myself. Never used NMM.

Since you now have an SSD, can I assume that you moved the game to your SSD for the reason of better performance? If the answer is YES, did you ALSO move NMM's virtual install folder to the SAME DRIVE?

If NO, you MUST enable "Multi-HD Install" and you MUST run NMM as ADMIN.

I will try to use MO2, Since NMM is outdated, and I have no clue why unless it was just poorly coded in the first place and thats why.
JimmyIowa Mar 12, 2022 @ 3:46pm
It wasn't poorly coded. It's just that over the years people developed some managers that are better. A 386 was great CPU to have for a while. Now it's a forgotten piece of computer history. That's just called progress.

New mod managers detect problems before you start the game, that NMM (and you) would have no clue about from just looking at the load order.

Actually, that's useful, instead of booting up the game and getting frustrated.. Well guess Ill not be stubborn and try out MO2 once my PC itself also stops being annoying from reinstalling the game since I also reformatted my SSD.

NMM was abandoned years ago - the new version was rebranded as Vortex

I refuse to use Vortex, I never understood it and I will not use it, Im trying out Mod Organizer instead.

Now how do I get Mod Organizer to detect F4SE? Clearly the stupid thing doesnt like loading my mods via steam's launcher like I could do with NMM.

Nevermind I have figured everything out and MO2 is working, Im just gonna have to deal with booting the game through a mod manager if I want to play with mods. Everything I install works on my External SSD just fine and my god the load times are fast asf.
