Preston is actually the self-appointed President of the Minute men...
Well Preston has got stuck on making me General, giving me a quest, then when I complete it, he asks me to be General again and gives me another quest. Now he just asks me to be General and help anyone I can.

So... while trying to fix this damned bug - (AGAIN)... I have developed a new appraisal concerning Preston. I thought he was a wet mop but...

Only several high ranking officers (senior Generals) can RECOMMEND a person be a General. It has to finally go to the top guy, like the President (or a king or Queen) to give the `yes`.

So basically Preston tricked the SS into serving him, cos really Preston wants to RULE the Minutemen.

Call a man in the only power armor a `General' then watch him win all your battles for you - He leads the world. Profit. Smart man.

just a cosplay corny bunch. I'm just fine with a Fallout V, so long as the Minutemen are mentioned in name only. their entire premise comes across as ultra-gimmicky otherwise.
to the extent where it's takin a piss on history, it's for those scum with a superhero complex.

Preston? Leading? I don't see it. That dude has virtually no charisma, no authority and what's worse he's clueless. To the point of making plans based on visions of drug addicted "fortune teller" he just met. He's a goody-two-shoes by nature, a kid with no imagination but with big mouth. Its not his fault though - its just that he was forced into boots too big for him and time was not on his side. It was either that or total disintegration of "Minuteman" he blindly followed. He asked random person to become a new general out of desperation and because he believes in "heroes"; He's living in a fable world that is black and white when everything is gray.

But he does lead. He leads you where to go. He leads you on what to do. And if you keep following him, he'll lead you to whoever he thinks should be shut down. then he pretends to let the SS lead by saying, "Are you ready to do this thing i thought of... General`?"

It' a con by Preston.

You as the SS literally don't get to tell Preston to do anything.

That's leading, man, if you let him.

Do we ever get to tell him where to go?

The only way to stop his leading you is to go somewhere else.

you get to tell him where to stay, indirectly. It's called, ironically, The Museum of Freedom.
dev's, to their credit, took mercy upon us to make the true railroaded game optional.

I usually do leave Preston as long as possible and just join the Brotherhood instead or maybe the Institute.

Can't stand the Railroad even more than Preston.

k, I didn't intend to invoke da railroad. was referring to railroading in video games in General.

I like it.

He can be both figurehead and active leader for small groups or tactical information, there's nothing wrong with that. He knows perfectly well that he is not capable of being the actual up-front-frontman of the group. He didn't want to be. He tells you that much and is quite emphatic about how he knows that he can't do it but you can.

It's not a scam if you actually do it right, since then, your uniting of the commonwealth is exactly as valid as him having delegated it or done it himself. You have all the choices - you can decide whether a settlement wants your help, by not helping them. He will express disappointment, but then who wouldn't? His growing excitement as you work your way through the settlements and gain more Minutemen following the cause, is brilliantly done and a welcome change from the snark or sarcasm prevalent in the entire rest of the companion group.
granted, I just don't like the voice acting. "there are thettlerth inthide! grab that layther muthket and help uth! Pleath!" potential of this game's story got eaten away by settlements.
Zekiran Oct 24, 2024 @ 3:06pm
If you don't like settlements, don't build them, pretty simple math huh bob?

The joy for me in this game is literally settlements.
at the expense of the actual game content, sure. most of those neat-freak hypochondriac settlement builder folk would be better off with the sims.

It IS actual game content, m'buddy cadaver.
ah, the game content that could have been...

Not going to lie.... I spend a good chunk of my time building and populating settlements myself..

It's "fun" to get a settlement looking and working the way I want it, and given the number of mods I employ, I see if I can't literally "build" a Nation out of settlements in the game.

By "Nation" I mean a collective group of settlements, with an active economy, means and method of production, active defence of it's borders, and a central organised command.
All this I can do with a few dozen mods and a few dozen more addons and has given me countless hours of fun and enjoyment.... all for the purchase price of 1 Bugesda game + DLC...

Not a bad trade.

And BTW: The Sim sucks ass.
