They can be a real boost.
but I usually just level up more and then do the quests for same effect.
I sometimes give them to my settle ment guards though to use in a pinch. (I have a mod that ensures they use them. vanilla NPCs I am not sure they use anything but stimpacks and even those only sometimes.)
Except if u decide to join cait, b4 her "Crisis" she loves it when u pop every chem under the sun, u can gain max affinity very quickly. After her "crisis" she disapproves of u popin pills,
During these "tests" I got three instant addictions, that took me a while to get cured. :D
Now I am using only Stimpacks and Rad-Away.
But as I am playing survival, I don't use them very often, really.
edit: in terms of "often", not very. I mostly don't get in situations where I need them.
