So This Settler Wants Me To Clear Raiders from Dunwich Borers...
A settler in Sanctuary Hills gives me one of those random 'clear X from Y location' quests that are part of the Minutemen faction's quests.

No big deal, right? Just more raiders, like at Corvega and elsewhere. I mean, never been to Dunwich yet, so it's a hike given that I can't fast-travel to it, but I can take care of a few raiders for this poor settler.

But, well Mr. Settler, you neglected to mention the whole part about there being a platoon of raiders guarding the entrance, as well as the 'satanic cult that became ghouls' thing I ran into... and the thing about there being a gas in the mines that causes brief visions into the past.

So, you were worried about the raiders, and that's all you thank me for, but the ghoul cult and 28-Days-Later stuff wasn't bothering you?

Oh, yes... That one, was your settlement below 50% happiness by any chance :D

But damn, haven't had that as a random quest, and I do my best clearing out areas by myself so when I get them they're usually bothered by that remote lone ghoul at the beach left standing somewhere.... They never hated me that much to send me to Dunwich, though... But hey, there's a nice trophy there?

Hah! I encountered that with another MM-help request early on in the game and had to bail out because they were too powerful so I left & came back later. I figured that was a quest that I initiated before finding the quest-giver though. Trippy fun for sure & there are plenty more like it!

Yeah not really fun getting this quest when your level 7 :P

It's a really tough mish at lower levels. Those damn raiders are very tough, and can shoot farther and more accurately than you do. Once you get up in levels, have stealth, and a very good sniping high-damage weapon, they're pushovers. Hint: if you can, invest in recon scopes and mark all the targets in that area so you can think tactically. I find it best to pick them off one at time, run away and hide for a minute (so they lose track (or, better yet, have maxed stealth so you don't have to necessarily run away), and head back and kill again. The recon scope is great for when you can see if they're trying to find where they last saw you and you can outflank them accordingly.

I was sent there at level 12 by a "settlement" of 3 people.
So, because 3 idiots in the middle of nowhere don't have the sense to just MOVE ELSEWHERE, I'm to clear out a cavern FORTRESS full of skull-marked veteran raiders, inside and out... yeah, no.

Don't jump in the hole with power armor on. There is a cool knife at the bottom and 2 mini nukes.

A little off topic, but I do not like building up more than about 4 settlements. So I use a console command that makes the settlers movable. Then I relocate them to my main settlements.Yes, I know I could just murder them to make an empty settlement but I can't play that way. I scrap everything at that settlement to keep it from attracting enemies. I store a bed, water pump and a couple turrets in the WS so I can use it as a temporary resting place for me.

But this is one of the few fun places in the game. The rest are way too easy. They are being helpful to make sure you don't miss it.

Dunwich is a great place to get mining helmets with working lights. I outfit all my provisioneers with them.

Thread necromancy aside, presumably the settlers don't mention the other problem at Dunwich Borers because they haven't got the faintest clue it exists.

But settlers do generally expect a lot of you, given that they don't inherently require you to be part of the Minutemen to offer you quests, and somehow still reason that one random man/woman will be perfectly capable of destroying an entire encampment of enemies on their own.
