For me reading every terminals and letterst makes every place much more intresting and also grants great atmosphere to game.. Also in my opinion it gets better when when you play it more.

IDK, I have a lot of friends who never got into any of the Fallout (let alone Elder Scrolls) series. Either it's the slow pace compared to GTA, they don't dig the look of the game, and some of them just don't like open world games. I mean, it's perfectly normal. Not everyone will get into a certain game, no matter how popular it is.

thanks for the responses guys :)
I for one absolutely love this game but my 'gaming' friends who play way more games than me couldn't get into. I don't understand why as FO4 looks great, has great combat, the companions are much more fleshed out than previous titles and as much as the settlement building is not complete it's a lot of fun. Quests have some good stories, enough to make the game interesting.
But like mentioned it's not for everyone but this is a game that you could potentially play forever :)

Try leaving the main quests after you find diamond city and just explore.
