Quests difficulty levels not provided.
In The Witcher Wild Hunt we were told how difficult each quest was but unfortunately not in Fallout 4. I had to give up on a quest where I had to kill many types of ghouls and finally a Glowing Ghoul with only low level weapons at my disposal.

What?
OK, nevermind...the enemies scale to your lvl regardless. and if you can't kill stuff in F4, you picked the wrong game.

And most W3 'high level' quests could easily be done at mid levels with decent intuition and slash/rolling the entire fight

so lower the difficulty ingame......

Thats why enemys have a Skull by thier name, means they are higher difficulty then you, you can attempt to take them on or level up a bit more with easier enemys and come back later to finish the mission

There's a limit to how high enemies can level depending on where you are on the map.

You can focus on the blue and green areas first and move on to the yellow areas after you gained some levels and good weapons. IMO, things get much easier once you get a combat rifle for mid-range fighting, combat shotgun for close-range fighting, and hunting rifle for sniping and even the red areas become survivable then (on normal difficulty anyway, probably will still need power armor for the SE and SW areas until you have enough of the right perks). Using drugs, especially drugs that carry multiple effects like psycho jet and bufftats (just combine the two relevant drugs at a chemistry station, psycho and jet = psycho jet for example) also make things easier. Med-x is also a big help as it boosts your DR.

You can get the combat rifle and combat shotgun from the weapon shops at Diamond City and Goodneighbor.

I'd actually love this feature purely from an organizational standpoint. Doing quests in order of difficulty is fun for me. Enhances the sense of progression. Hopefully this can be modded in in the future.

Yeah, it would be ok if they provided a quest level. But there's an easy enough way to deal with that. If you get yourself into a quest that is too difficult for your current level/skills, just back out of it and find something easier until you level up some, get better weapons/armor/skills. Then go back to it later.

Early on, I went on solo scavenger missions into areas where I wasn't likely to enounter anything tougher than a few raiders, and looted everything I could.

Just like any open world game, you're going to be able to get into areas that you are in no way prepared for.

Chuckle. Friend of mine used the phrase "Combat gardening" to describe this activity in Oblivion and LotRO.

I'm a big fan of this combat gardening.

I don't follow what you mean by blue, green and yellow areas. Where exactly are these areas shown?
My problem was in the quest at the National Training Yard. I can return with Preston (I think) or
in my power armor, or go back later, as I don't think the ghouls will re-spawn like in some other games.

so find something else to do and become stronger, Dark Souls famously allowed the player to wander into ares that were way above the ability of the player to handle, ussually by placing some difficult enemies in the area., and it was an effective way to corral players into a more reasonable path. That didnt mean that you shouldent be in that area early it just mean that you were in for a challenge.

that dosent matter they did the story progression really well i never struggled anyway if your barley doing sidequests then thats why throw in sidequests dont speed through the main story its what bethesda games are

fallout games have always been hard this one is the hardest i STRONGLY suggest modding weapons seriously it will help a TON instead of a hunting rifle doing 50 damage you can mod it to do 200 mod your armor aswell keep alot of food on you when u see a molerate or radstag kill it take the hide and meat cook the meat use the meat when your low health not stimpaks only use stimpaks if absoloutley neccesary and or if you broke a bone use the hide to mod armor pickup toy cars toy aliens alarm clocks phones desk fans duct tape wonderglue aluminum cans/canisters also take gasoline cans used oil cans and oil also take abraxo cleaning blood packs and toothpaste u can find supplies in those 3 things to craft stimpaks or healing supplies in general i hope this helps these are the main things ive found helped after 145 hours playing the game

I have just completed two quests but am not yet able to gain exp. points from them until I speak to Preston. Unfortunately he is not at Sanctuary but waiting for me at the castle site where a queen murilurk has to be killed (Taking Independence quest) I should not have accepted his quest until later.- too late now!

The map I linked is colored by difficulty. Basically the NW, North Central, and area south of the the river covering Diamond City and the Combat Zone but not much further south of them are easy areas. The rest of the map including the National Guard Training Yard are more difficult areas where enemies will be at a higher level and you really need better weapons (combat rifle, combat shotgun, etc.) to venture into.

Don't worry, the quests should auto-complete after a week in-game passes.
