I'm just quoting wiki here (kinda looked into curie as I though a having a miss nanny about might be fun) But I think the CVRIE (original designation) was a vault tec funded project, but the professor programmed Curie's personality into CVRIE's AI (if that makes sense)
As I'm not well writ in the lore I do not know if I find inconsistencies with older games. But for me most of the snippets I find seem to be tied into either the past as backstory(though I must say I did not overly scrutinize them), or the now as in quests (which don't appeal to me much as saving settlers is enough of a job)
Biggest continuity I find is actually in locked safes. I can't imagine that the pipegun was a favourite pastime of america when the bombs dropped :D Think I did install a mod to fix that.
Or the crash of that airplane with all the locked luggage containing ammunition and post war stuff. Or the accents - Irish accent, 200 years later when everyone should have same accent? FO3 had that same mistake with that guy with the Scottish accent. There are too many to name.
When you exit that longed sealed door in 81, no one gives a ♥♥♥♥. Or Preston upon meeting his imposter says nothing.
These I can forgive. But the actual writing mistakes get to me. There are multiple missssspellings throughout the game too.
Like I said, didn't overscrutinize all the writing, and I'm not a native speaker of English so some misspellings might have simply gone unnoticed by me.
Do think they forgot to cater for a few possible situations, like the fake Preston. That a veritable companion has no words for that is deffo a miss. And with the Preston be Dead thread, I would think someone would know by now if the minutemen stay the minutemen with him gone.
Here is a list of just a few some i find to be major and down right obligatory and shows disrespect for the very franchise's foundation as a whole:
The timing of the bombing in F4 seems different than the other games.
Vertibirds were supposed to be quite rare and prototypes only during the Pre-War period but they're seen in Boston in the intro.
Hovering vertibird just prior to nuclear attack (Established that Vertibirds were not brought into service until after the Great War)
Assaultrons are Pre-War synths that don't mesh at all with the level of robotics that period seemed to have.
T-60 Power Armor existing and being used Pre-War
The Power Armor the Enclave has been using on all its troops for decades (APA) has been reclassified as an experimental design (X-01)
The first Fallout games say the reactors in Power Armor have energy to last a hundred years, which doesn't mesh with the reactor cells here.
Someone from the BoS said potatoes were extinct (this one hit me the hardest)
Mr. Handy's have full AI, whereas in previous games they had simulated personality routines.
Super Mutants and FEV is everywhere (this trend started with Fallout 3 though, F4 continues it)
SPECIAL ratings of 1 are considered average now.
F4 suggests a permanent presence on the moon, including a battle over the Sea of Tranquility, but previous Fallout games said the last manned mission to the moon was in 2052.
A Few More Continuity Errors:
Vault-Tec still vending vaults prior to attack (established that they were already sold out previously)
Warning of nuclear attack (The POTUS in Fallout 2, mentions that the Chinese launched first and there was no warning on the East Coast)
Light Armored Vehicle seen in the neighborhood( Clashes with Bethesda's own established retro-50's stylings)
Bethesda either doesn't do research or doesn't care.. Of course many things they "established" in FO3 they also contradict.. Hell FO4 even contradicts itself!
Sad as a lifelong fan of thw best ever concieved lore and benchmark rpg that raised the bar on player freedom and choices to within just 2 game entries become a shell of it's former glory...
Please someone do some black magic (sacrifice a goat or maybe a child) and resurrect Black Isle Studios!
While you're getting into that pipe dream, Resurrect Origin, Relic and Volition while you're at it.
I just assumed the old robot he "built" was the one vault tec included just changed from its intended task by the scientist. Afterall even in real life some people repackage old things with minor changes and claim to have built them from scratch.
Even things like Pre-War vertibirds and the FEV spread can be rationalized unless you treat Fallout lore like Dogma (In which case, Fallout 2 has to be your least favorite game since it started the retcons)
For example, the Pre-War Vertibirds are clearly of inferior technology to the Enclave Vertibirds, and much more closely resemble aircraft like the V-22 Osprey. So you can't really say "Reeeee Pre war pre war!" when such a basic design existed already.
