Are game-breaking-profit-yielding Purified Water farms still a thing?
Hello!

Been away from the game for a long while (got burnt out on the settlement management and never actually started playing the real game...that old story), but I recall that the ability to farm hundreds of bottles of Purified Water via Industrial Water Purifiers pretty much made the game's economy a non-issue.

I know, I know: "If you don't like it, don't use it. It's a single-player game." Fair enough. I'm just wondering if this practice--which I would consider an exploit, though one of those borderline ones because it does seem to function as intended--still functions as it did a month or two ago.

Planning to jump back into Fallout 4 after I've had my way with DD:DA, and will probably purge my containers and just start (relatively) anew.

Thanks!

How do you figure? It's basically infinite money for nothing.

Àny abundance of regrowing crops is also infinite money, any form of re-appearing loot is inifinte money, any form of lootable ammo from respawning enemies is inifite money, any form of meat from respawning animals is inifite money...
By jove, there's loads of ways to make infinite caps in this way if you look... Must stop playing now cause having too many options can never be good for any economy... Oh wait...

Water purifiers are nice at the start for caps. However if you are still using them for your main source of caps late game, then you need to re-evaluate your money making methods.

1. Scrounger perk and sell unused ammo
2. Buy fertilizer and make jet
3. Sell useless legendaries
4. Sell off all the grenades and such you probbaly dont use.
5. Once you acquire double meat perk, cook meats and sell.

What Aries said.

Settlements gives you brahmin.. Brahmin gives you fertilizer every day
Scavaging stations with settlers gives you ressources for nothing.. Including plastic.
Any settlers not on food should schavange..
This gives you free Jets forever and ever. 10 settlements, average 2 brahmin in each.. that's 20 fertilizer every ingame day. That's a whole drug empire you can make.
Settlements as a whole are broken.
-Huge Mutfruit farms - Money gallore
-Fertilizer - Plastic - Jet farm, - Money galore
-Industrial Water purifier's - Money galore
Then there's the final rank in fortune finder with a good chance of enemies exploding into caps.. So respawning enemies = free ammo, caps and weapons.
This is a giving game for a post apocalyptic setting. If you ain't swimming in caps/ammo/drugs you're doing something very wrong.

Not to mention the game throws you good loot like candy all the time.

Tons of Missile launchers, Power armour frames, Fat Mans, Legendaries, Sturdy/Heavy armour pieces. If it can be found, it can be found at least 5 times in this game

I like to think of it as a market buisness.

I played the game and in 10hrs had like 16k something and I just used that to buy level 3 shops and I am done. I don't need caps because they are worthless, or loot, it's all worthless. I just shoot people in the face like Shaun and walk around the map.

Getting a lot of caps is not anything that I would call even remotely "game-breaking" in any 3D Fallout game.

But, you said it best yourself:

Thing is that the more water and resources you produce, the more likely it is to be attacked. Defenses should be greater than water plus food combined.

So with attacks, then you get whiners who complain that "but my settlement was attacked!" Fine then don't build water or food beyond what the settlement needs! Or you have to spend a lot of resources to build defenses. This makes it pretty fair in my book.

......& that take the FUN out of the game... very little else to do if you know what i mean...

I have not seen a single post in 3 months solely complaining that their settlement was attacked.

I'm sure there must be some, but they're certainly not the norm. If anything, people complain that their settlers + massive defenses can't seem to deflect simple raider attacks.
