Power armor head light to detect living thing vs synthetic : not making sense
The lamp turns red anything that is actually living but how come when I look at synthetics they also look red ?

Does not make sense. I thought it was a good way to detect them but it is now useless.

Interestingly enoungh if you put that mod on power armor and then give it to your NPC follower they will highlight all the 'targets' for you. Gets kind of wierd in your own town. All that said it is useful at night if your not using night vision.

It mainly highlights anything that is technically alive in the game, it's not thermal vision. It helps out a lot for snipers who don't use VATS or the Kill Shot perk

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but are you talking about gen 3 synths or the ones that look more like robots. For the gen 3's it makes sense they're highlighted because they are nearly identical to humans.

It makes as much sense as "bleeding" turrets when hitting them with a "wounding" gun ;)

the red lamp doesn't detect living things.
animals and ghouls don't detect the light it emits, you have a better chance of sneaking up on them with that light on as opposed to your pipboy or heaven forbid the bright lamp, which is a giant YOU ARE HERE beacon.

He's not talking about the red lamp, he's talking about the PA mod that detects NPC's/

Humans give off heat. Machines give off heat via their power source. It actually makes sense that the Targeting HUD does not distinguish between the two, its just targeting heat sources. Nothing can move on its own without some form of energy, thus anything capable of movement from humans to turrets SHOULD be detectable. Targeting HUD makes far more sense than bleeding turrets.

So turrets cant leak hydraulic fluids, or electricity? This is how I would imagine a machine to bleed.

You should try reading that again. :cfacepalm:
Targeting HUD is the part that makes sense, so it's a bad comparison because bleeding turrets DONT make sense.

OP is talking about the Power Armor Helmet modification "Tactical HUD". It highlights NPCs but it bugs out on a few occasions. Like some more Mirelurk animations and Legendary enemies when they go "HULK ANGRY MODE".

Beware though as that modification causes some NPCs that are NOT hostile to become hostile permanently.
