Fallout 4 should have some kind of driveable vehicles.
It's what I miss the most in this game. Alright we have swift travel, but so do almost all open world games with a variety of vehicles (Far Cry series etcetera). It the whole atmosphere of the game I wouldn't mind a lone wanderer motorcycle or a mad max style car.

We have nuclear power cells that can power up armor suits, verticopters and even a giant robot, there's absolutely no reason why a vehicle would be impossible for a moneyed character like the Vault-dweller.

I know the model for a pre-war motorcycle and a variety of cars are available in the game. If modders would fancy the idea of investigating whether using said models can be used to buold some form of driving mechanic, that would be awsome and many MANY players would get their motorcycle mod :)

There's just something special about the idea of driving a motorcycle through the wasted lands of the Commonwealth.

Navigating the roads would be a real problem in most areas. I believe that a motorcycle, or perhaps even a bicycle, would be better suited to FO4's terrain.

Of course, one could always join the BoS and help develop some sort of APC, I guess. Is there a mod there ? (hint, hint).

The problem with adding driving vehicles is people would complain it was not realistic enough because it did not play like Grand Theft Auto.

Once you can use the Vertibird by deploying smoke grenades just go to a point where you can fly over where you want to go and just telling the pilot to land when desired. Great way to get to Jamacia Plains.

And a repairstation with a decent hoze, for hozing splattered super mutants from the grill and windshield.

The problem is driving physics, and we've seen how that turned out with X-Cars for New Vegas.. albeit, It's a newer engine, it's just a matter of bethesda even bothering to make it in the first place.

I have one question... Why?

You can casually run the width of the map (west to east) in about 15-20 minutes or so, if you mange to avoid combat...

The map in FO4 is intentionally compact enough to make it perfectly reasonable to travel entirely on foot... Cars are not required IMO...

I want to ride a brahmin!

Or how about a tamed, armored deathclaw?

I am personally convinced it's actually the other way around. They didn't incorporate free roaming vehicles because it would make the map feel even smaller than it already is. I mean a vertibird (not even a fast vehicle) gets you from A to B in no time. It makes the whole map feel like the size of a small town.

And why? Because fun, that's why. It'd be tons of fun to be riding a motorcycle all up and down the map and I personally wouldn't feel the need to fast travel too often, so I guess immersion is an element as well.

If we were talking about New Vegas, I would agree with you. Open deserts would be ideal for a dune buggy but the terrain in this game is broken and unforgiving. Where could you go with your vehicle? I can barely walk around without jumping and navigating obstacles. The roads are a total mess, the woods are rocky, treacherous and filled with swamps, the infrastructure is mostly laying on the ground.

There might be a stretch of road here or there where a vehicle would be useful but who would ever take the time to reverse engineer a nuclear powered car just to drive it for one mile? In NV I could hit autowalk and go make some tea. That would never work in this game. I wouldn't get much further than a hundred feet before I got stuck in something.

A pack-brahmin would be way more useful to me.

Ulitmately, I think it comes down to a style thing. Fallout seems to pride itself on being the game without vehicles. We did have them briefly in FO2, I think, but they were just fast-travel devices that we could store gear in.

I would like to see vehicles too but it makes good sense that we don't have any in the Commonwealth. Boats of course, are another matter entirely. Those are still useful and necessary, can travel easily along the water, etc. Even just a raft or a ferry crossing would make good sense in many places. Oh well.

Every time you park your vehicle and go inside a building for quest, you come back outside and your vehicle is resting on 4 concrete blocks. And one of the raiders dropped a poo on your seat.

The faster you move, the faster the engine needs to load new data. Don't know if it can handle it at realistic motorcycle speeds.

A pack brahmin that behaves as another companion (but pref. not counting against the limit) that fast-travels with you might be reasonable, although unless it's weirdly immortal it might not last too long.

Bethesda didn't include vehicles because the map is already small enough... It really is that simple... It was intentionally compact with the idea of foot travel in mind...

Let's face it, Skyrim's horses were barely faster than the player sprinting... Why? Because you make them too fast and the map does feel too small, as it's designed with walking in mind...

It sounds like you want to play Mad Max frankly...

Maybe one with combat armor, like an attack dog ? :steamhappy:
